A topit is just a prop to make something vanish just like a TT. You must wear some kind of coat or shirt that the topit can hide in for you to be able to ditch the deck of cards, the coin, or what ever you are making vanish. It does take alot of practice to get it down perfectly so not to be seen.

Michael Ammar's DVD is great for topit stuff. It was filmed quite awhile back. I haven't put his material to work yet since I don't usually perform in a jacket. The only material besides the Ammar that I've heard is worth looking into is the stuff by Jay Scott Berry

I have Michael Ammar's topit video as well as some of the work of Jay Scott Berry and also Carl Cloutier. Carl is known for his excellent sleeving as well as topit work. Michael's video goes into the most detail as far as working with the topit and getting used to it. He also gives a pattern for you to follow so you know how to make the topit and have it sewn into your jacket. I recently made two of these (one for each side of my jacket.) I have to get the video out and practice a lot with them because you have to be absolutely 100% accurate and comfortable with your "vanishing move" to make sure you don't mess it up. I would highly recommend the Ammar tape. I wasn't as impressed with the Jay Scott Berry stuff. He did a very nice coin routine, but his video was all done silently with him just pointing to things as he did them. It was sort of odd. Carl's stuff was really fantastic. Combining sleeving with the topit is outstanding. He does an ungimmicked multiplying ball routine that is really awesome. He produces 4 yellow balls one-by-one and also a yellow silk. He then causes each of the balls to vanish and is left perfectly clean at the end. Its a quick little routine that would be absolutely perfect for walk-around magic.

Hope that helps!
Dave

I started with the Cloutier topit and sleeving videos. Very visual magic/manipulation. I didn't seem to have any problems of missing the topit or having obvious flash as others have said (very rarely). Cloutier shows how to cover the topiting action and how to topit items on the offbeat, covering with additional moves before and after vanishing an item in the topit.
