Photosynthesis by Andrew Mayne

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Powerful : The Architect from BC, Canada : Throwing another quick one in here.

Photosynthesis is definatly going to get you reactions. This gimmick has the ability to floor people, if done correctly. Most of it, is going to come down to presentation. Super easy and super fun.

Keep it out of the sun for god sakes.....

GHOST VISION ULTIMATE by Andrew Mayne

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Scary Good : The Architect from BC, Canada : Andrew Mayne has some really amazing effects and some really lame ones. This ones falls someone between "that's Amazing" and "Dammmnnnnnn......"

Be careful, this effect can seriously alter someones perception of reality.

On the downside it's easy to mess this up in front of a lot of people...

Vertigo by Rick Lax

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Great! At the right time.... : The Architect from BC, Canada : No need for a long review. Rick Lax delivers again, and nobody is surprised. There are many card box effects out there today. Most are effective, a few are a waste of money. Rick lax's Vertigo is visually powerful and with a little imagination it can fit into almost any routine senario.

i won't say too much but the reason i gave it 4/5 stars is due to the heavy told the effect has on the box. easily fixed, but annoying.

Ignition by Chris Smith

Thumbs up! 5 stars : New, exciting twist : The Architect from BC, Canada : I can honestly say i knew how this was done by watching the video. if you ever worked with pen through bill, you can imagine the method. Still i will say its a clever new device that is fresh to the scene.

Good Quality.
Good instructions.

Stitch by David Gabbay

Thumbs up! 4 stars : gets the job done : The Architect from BC, Canada : This is a decent little effect. Not completely mind blowing in my opinion. I use this in routins with clothes altering effects. Though i sometimes find it hard to justify using this over using Dresscode. If you dont use a collared polo shirt, you can combind these two effects which is great!

Ignition by Chris Smith

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Ignition : Derrell Mitchell from London, Ontario Canada : Tricks that you see performed in videos are often misleading, or shadow the truth as to (1) difficulty of the trick (2) what the audience can see relating to angles (3) forget to mention that the gimmicks are a little less than what you might expect in quality. I never write reviews, however this one is worth the effort and I'm like most of you and hate to waste my hard earned money on a bad trick. Please be one of the first to buy this trick. I watched the video from beginning to end, practiced for 5 minutes and did this trick for some friends. They thought I had super powers and could not stop talking about how great this performance was. I consider this to be the perfect trick, relatively easy , no bad angles, great quality, and I was not paid to write this review! The price might be a little high, but totally worth it for a valuable trick.

Plus Wallet (Small) by Jerry O'Connell - Trick

Thumbs up! 5 stars : The Best Wallet : Satanica from Everywhere : This is certainly the best wallet for the classic Card to Wallet effect. I have used several in the past, and this one is most definitely the best for several reasons:

~ Loading is fast
~ The loading feature is well-disguised, so as not to arouse any suspicion
~ The wallet can be handled casually by spectators and avoid suspicion
~ Though larger than today's "typical" wallet, this wallet is still great, and functions as a regular wallet far better than do all other CTWs on the market.
~ Construction is from quality material, and conducted with care
~ Palm and No-Palm loads are both available
~ ID case is included for Card to ID Case Inside of Zipped Wallet (my personal favorite)
~ Object to Envelope is an option with this wallet, and the DVD included provides patterns for making the envelopes

For the sake of space, I will stop listing the CTW advantages, but the list goes on in this fashion.

Furthermore, this wallet is versatile, going far beyond the regular Card to Wallet effect. The small wallet not only has a peek option (invaluable for mentalists who don't want to carry around a separate wallet for peeks), but it also now comes with the Wonder Unit (previously only included with the large version). The Wonder Unit allows for the Powerball 60 routine as well as Confabulation routines, among other things.

The plain fact is this: If you want a wallet that is high-quality, will work wonderfully as a normal wallet, and provides the opotions of Card to Wallet (palm AND no-palm), Card to ID Case, Card to Envelope, Mentalism peeks, Confabulation, Powerball 60, and others, then the Jerry O'Connell Plus Wallet is what you ought to buy.

The price is high, but you'll never have to pay it twice. It is a worthwhile investment for anyone who performs Card to Wallet regularly, or plans to do so.

Panic by Aaron Fisher

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Panic : Joe Mystic from San Diego, CA : I generally dislike packet tricks but Panic is a great opener because you end up with a full deck to perform the rest of your card effects. The audience thinks that you were using a full deck from the beginning. Getting set for your next group takes only seconds. It is a fooler but not on a drop your jaw in amazement level. This effect is so easy, beginners can do it with 10 minutes practice. Good enough that good card handlers would be willing to have it in their arsenal.

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Panic : Capt. Arnold from New York, where else is there? : Buy it now! It's too good to pass up. I do strolling magic on most of the dinner cruise boats in the New York area and the reaction from the guests are incredible. It just blows them away...very easy to perform and very powerful.

Ladybug by Paul Harris

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Reputation Maker : Pepe Ruiz, SJ from Houston, TX USA : People, This is a reputation maker that people are left talking about for years after it happened. Every time I hear about the trick people tell the craziest details. Like the drop coagulated slowly in front of them and then turned into a lady bug, walked to the tip of my finger and flew away. Getting lady bugs is the only problem, but that's not a problem with the trick, and you can get them online and in local stores too. They go over it in the dvd.

Chinese Coin (Black - Half Dollar Size) by Royal Magic - Trick

Thumbs up! 3 stars : Nice looking, low weight : Troels Holm from Denmark : This coin looks nice and could pass for a real coin if you give it som wear and scratches. It is very shiny out of the pack and looks a little artificial.

The low weight makes it very easy to palm.

Just one warning: Don't buy if you are going to work with shells. The matcing shell looks terrible.

Ascanio's World Of Knives by Ascanio and Jose de la Torre - Book

Thumbs up! 5 stars : The Bible of knife work : Troels Holm from Denmark : I really like Ascanio's clever and deep thinking.
For several years I have sought after material on the colorchanging knives. This is the most clever material I have found.

Explanations are very detailed and you will find some theory and some sleights not explained elsewhere.

This is for the performer not wanting to underestimate the intelligence of his spectators.

Coin Box Killers by Doug Brewer - Book

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Clever stuff for the well equipped coiner : Troels Holm from Denmark : Advanced and very clever coin box routines. Probably a gold mine if you are the lucky owner af a complete set of different boxes and marketed coin gaffs.

If you just own a Boston box and and some coins and a shell you will soon want to spend a lot of money to do the routines.

Penguin should inform better about this

Expanded Chinese Shell w/Coin (BLACK) - Trick

Thumbs down. 2 stars : Strange looking shell : Troels Holm from Denmark : The shell is made from a pressed piece of thin metal, not from an expanded coin.

If it is placed beside the real coin it looks fatter, bigger and with rounded edges.

Not usable for close-up work.

Close Up Pad - Professional VDF

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Great PAD : Onnen from Berlin, Germany : The Pad does well what it should do and I like it very much.

However, according to the product insert "one should not fold it inwardly, but roll it up leaving the soft surface on the outside" to prevent creasing up. Therefore, after delivery you probably should roll it out as fast as you can: At least my Pad was rolled in the wrong way. But it survived!

Paul Harris Presents Animate and Restore (DVD and Gimmick) by Jesse Feinberg

Thumbs down. 1 stars : Poorly thought out : Andrew Brimmell from Victoria, BC Canada : This is one of those tricks that had potential. Unfortunately the finished product falls very short. The handling is awkward, and the gimmick is very easy to spot, due to the position of it. The "load" is almost impossible, and is completely glossed over in the instructional DVD. The DVD spends a lot of time on inconsequential things like writing on the envelope, but almost no time on the actual trick. I practiced this for ages, showed it to a few friends, and am now sending it back to Penguin, post haste. Not recommended.

Tarbell Course of Magic Volume 3 - Book

Thumbs up! 5 stars : A classic : Chris Lott from Los Angeles, CA : The Tarbell Course is a must-own for any magician. The axiom that what's old is new once more could not ring any truer, and Tarbell aptly illustrates this. Some of the effects in Tarbell may be starting to show their age, but there is still much gold to be mined in these books.

Paint the Roses Red (Blu-Ray) by Lewis Leval - DVD

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Great effects : Chris Lott from Los Angeles, CA : Some of the effects on the DVD are fantastic (particularly Harmony) and Leval's instruction is quite good. The production quality of the DVD itself is excellent, as well, and I think it's only a matter of time before more magic DVDs begin appearing in the blu-ray format. If I could fault anything with this particular DVD it would be Lewis Leval's performance style. He seems so disinterested in his performance that he manages to make some truly spectacular effects seem entirely mundane. Magic should be...well...magical. A magician needn't appear amazed by his own effects, but neither should he look like he's trying to stifle a yawn. All in all, though, a great DVD and a good addition to any collection.

The Vaudeville Deck

Thumbs up! 3 stars : Nice, but... : Chris Lott from Los Angeles, CA : It's a nice deck and I love the concept but the art is a little hit-or-miss on some of the cards. I'm also not overly fond of the beige backgrounds. I suspect that the artist wanted to "age" the cards, but the uniformity of color just doesn't look right.

Thumbs up! 5 stars : I won my school talent show! : Antman from Massuchusetts, USA : I first saw this on Penn and Teller fool us and I was amazed. I bought this not really knowing what to expect and I must say this is probably the strongest magic routine I do now. The dvd is funny and easy to follow. Gazzo does a great job teaching you this and you can tell he is really proud of this trick. I preformed this at my high school talent show and I received a standing ovation from the crowd, and I received a $100 prize so the trick paid for it self. Not only did I win that but I also won a magic competition on (utube) and from that I won 24 tricks. This trick has really helped me take my magic to the next level so if you are willing to practice this trust me it is worth getting!

It's a pretty simple concept (and it's not difficult slight of hand) but the effect is very pleasant to the eye. I'm very satisfied! Like I said: if you like the demo, you will be pleased with the trick.

Psypher by Robert Smith (Universal Impression 2.0)

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Very cool idea! : Virgil Anderson from Denver, CO : This is a great idea that will have your imagination going wild with all the different ways that you can apply this tool. I gave psypher 4 stars because the routines that were presented were not as strong as I'd hoped because I think that there isn't much to misdirect the audience from the methodology being used...that being said, the actual utility is both practical & brilliant.

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Much better then liquid metal : Virgil Anderson from Denver, CO : I have had liquid metal for quite some time now, and I finally purchased psychokinetic silverware. This video is top notch! Where Strebler teaches you his routine, Banachek really takes the time to teach you the subtleties & misdirection that you'll need to truly make cutlery bending work for you in the real world. Love this DVD!

Pointless by Gregory Wilson

Thumbs up! 5 stars : ..One of the best! : Don Podlas from Oregon : ...I have no idea why I waited so long to pick this one up. This is one of those neat little tricks that any worker will really appreciate...strong, visual, and well thought out. This kills!!....I have to share a funny story though...after I received "Pointless" I realized that I already had the necessary props to perform this in my collection of various gimmicks!!... no worries! the DVD was worth the price of the trick alone anyway. ... Greg's props are custom built and designed to be innocent looking but very deadly!!!.....great buy!!...oh yeah, practice!!!!!!!!!!

Chop by Craig Petty

Thumbs up! 5 stars : It's a complete gift : Ted from USA : I've been doing magic for almost 10 years now and this is the best one ever I have purcahsed. The reasons are:

1. Secret is simple, the gimmick is very easy to carry. I don't want to use a gimmick that is hard to operate because if a gimmick is complicated to use, I can't concentrate on my performance but try to do the moves with the gimmick well which is little awkard moment during the performance.

2. Perfect for Close Up, Walk Aroud any types of shows. In original cups and balls rountine or chop cup routines you can't do it anytime anywhere. You can only do it in right setting. I belive that Cups & Balls rountine is very simple to understand and fun routine to audience. I don't want to perform this wearing a suit and with gorgeous cups and a wooden magic wand. The routine should be fun not serious.

3. Spectator involvement. No chop cup balls used but spectator's bank note. Because of the fact that you just use spectator's bill, they will pay attention more and participate more exicitingly. You don't want them just watch it without any response. This effect is more likely game rather than one miracle.

4. Props are innocent. No gimmicky. Not only you use spectator's bank note. You use a sharpie ,a cup, and a lemon. Nothing new and suspicious to audience. It looks more magical.

Think by Shin Lim - DVD

Thumbs up! 5 stars : I like this the most : Ted from USA : I have about 6~7 acaan items in my hand. This is by far the best one and I'm going to stop buying accan realated items because I think I'll use THINK only over and over when I want to perform acaan.

This is not magic effect involved with moves but
concidence effect. I mean if this kind of effects has a even one small move, it will lose its purity. It doesn't look good. I mean your performance skill can cover that whichever acaan you perform but if you want to perform this like true coicidence you gotta give the deck to spectator at whole time since the performance start. THINK can make you do this. And I believe that this is the key point to success this miracle.

GT Speedreader Marked Deck (809 Mandolin Red Back) - Trick

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Trick exposure on the graphic ... great :( : AkiraFist from Dallas, TX : Ok before I write my review .. WHY DO THEY EXPOSE THE TRICK ON THE GRAPHIC?! Apparently so anybody casually browsing for magic decks can instantly see where to look on MY deck to see if it's marked.

That aside, this marking system eliminates the major annoyance I had with Boris Wild - you need to look in 4 spots to see which card it is. That requires time, which makes it obvious that you're scanning for a marking on the back.

I love this deck, just hate the exposure.

Killer Elite Pro by Andy Nyman - Trick

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Strong and easy : quoc from Grand Prairie, TX USA : Such a good trick. I'm a beginner and I mess up tricks a lot. I mean I am bad. But I was able to pull off this trick and just kill with it. The method is simple, but the images and associations it creates in the mind of the spectator as well as developing a proper routine for it makes for a strong effect. And I was able to do that, and I suck.

Not entirely inspectable, depends on what the spectator chooses, so I use it as an opener for other mentalism effects. Some choices are better than others, but if one listens to the tips on the DVD the best choice really does get chosen most of the time. But if the weak choice gets chosen, the effect is still okay and gets a nice reaction, but have a strong follow up.

Objectively I should give it 4 stars bc it's not too inspectable, but I love doing it, I carry it everywhere I go, it's a worker for me, it gets a 5.

Emotional Intelligence [E.I.] by Luke Jermay

Thumbs down. 1 stars : WAY TO OBVIOUS !! : Brian Costello from N.S.W Australia : Ever had one of those moments when you wanted desperately for the world to open up and swallow you ?!?!???!!!
E . I has just left me eating a S#@T sandwich!!!!!
Beautiful presentation , great set up .
Total lay audience, just the type I thought would be 'dumb founded ', and ' amazed ' at this illusion , kicked me right in the groin !!!
Cries and moans of 'You're kidding !!!', and " Obviously you're !@#$%^!@#$%^&!@#$%^....' and we're not that stupid !!!'
Looking back at this illusion , through a spectators eyes , they were right ! It really is BLOODY OBVIOUS !!! Some times we want our illusions to work so much , that we under estimate our spectators \ audience , which is something a pro , amateur or total beginner illusionist , should never do !!
Keep your money in your pocket or, be very very careful to whom you present this to !! Your audience as a whole needs to be very gullible .
You need but one person to ' click ' and you're gone !! If this happens , your presentation / stage area becomes very small , the heat intensifies ten fold and your reputation trickles ( sweat ) down your back till it reaches the crack of your ar#% !!
Luckily illusionists are thick skinned ( we need to be!) . Next week new crowd new Illusion , " The show goes on " .
" What doesn't kill us makes us stronger !" .

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Ingenious, fun, COMMERCIAL : Andrew Brimmell from Victoria, BC Canada : This one is right up there with Cardtoon. It is a truly unbelievable card revelation, with a highly novel concept. This is a trick for people who don't like magic. Yes, you will need a table, and reset takes about a minute, but the result is well worth it. Mathieu Bich is one of the most creative minds in magic, and also one of the most devious. This one fools, and entertains, EVERYONE.

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Great Effect/Gimmick! : Anonymous from CALIFORNIA : I wish I could give this more stars because 5 just isnt enough! This is one of my favorite effects right now (of course after smoke). The great thing about this effect is it's so small but the reactions you get are AMAZING. There hasn't been one performance I've done of this that people aren't blown away!

The awesome thing about TheShark gimmick is you can literally have it at the bottom or anywhere else in the deck until you are ready to use it! I always do my opener before this trick.

Ignition by Chris Smith

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Lose The Pen! : Robert B. from Orlando, Florida USA : Finally. An object through a bill, (and restoration), that is easy to carry, makes sense, isn't over-exposed, can be examined before and after the illusion, is highly visible and is well-made. Lose your pens, kids...there's a new routine in town. And with a few extra subtleties, (that aren't used on the DVD - you'll have to use your imagination), this becomes a very baffling illusion that - even with the over-exposure of the pen-thru-bill/anything - lay people just can't explain.

You hand out the key; you borrow a bill; you jam the key through the bill; you display the key clearly penetrating the bill; you 'rip' the key through the bill; you hand the spectator the key; you hand the spectator the restored bill. It doesn't get any easier. Well-made and worth the money. It's about time something this good came along for this type of effect. No surprise that it's from Chris at MagicSmith.

Over 3 hours of great, commercial magic that will appeal to all skill levels. Josh Jay has a passion for magic and it's contagious. I live in New York and we have plenty of lectures available but nothing compares to the advantage of having a front row seat, the ability to rewind and to be able to view the lecture (or a particular effect) multiple times. That's the Penguin Live advantage. This month we had a phenomenal lecture by Josh Jay and in two weeks the entire IMX Convention. Awesome!

Cocktail Card Magic by Bill Abbott - Book

Thumbs up! 3 stars : coctail card magic : Anonymous from Kansas : I liked the advice on how to handle the strolling magic venue. It was concrete and useful.

I also liked the 3 routines, but have some reservations due to Bill Abbott giving standard corner short control , but not crediting Kaplan or who ever else was earlier.

The tricks don't automatically reset, so you need to do it between groups. He also used a commercial gimmick that takes up a whole suit pocket, so has limited use if pocket mgt. is necessary.

However, if your goal is to offer 3 min. of card magic at a cocktail party for small groups, the material is very useful. Just be prepared for the author's handlings of standard workers you may already perform.

Joshua Jay LIVE: Monday May 7th @9:00pm Eastern

Thumbs up! 5 stars : Excellent lecture : Scott from New York : Lasting over three hours, this lecture has a fantastic mix of tricks, sleights and conversation. The vibe is relaxed and intimate, and there's much talk here about presentation and creating effects. The opening "Hitchcock" card trick is a stunner, not too difficult, and one that few people will have seen. This was my first Penguin lecture and I really appreciated the format and the length. Will definitely be checking out others, but for those who missed, this download is recommended.

Essentials in Magic Invisible - DVD

Thumbs up! 4 stars : Essentials in Magic--The Invisible Deck : Frank Cardone from USA : When I read the instructions in the pack two or three times, I felt: "This is too much for me too tackle at this time." The DVD changed all that; the commentator was excellent. He gave me a clear understanding of the trick, and within half an hour I performed it successfully--slowly but correcttly. Obviously, this is a presentation that must be performed smoothly and with confidence. I am working toward that goal. Thanks...Well worth the price.

Thought Transmitter by John Cornelius

Thumbs down. 3 stars : good gimmick but not my style : IE Reign from Denver, Colorado. USA : This effect is a cool one, and I like the concept behind it... However I am much more into card tricks and street magic that appears natural, and the thought transmitter is too clearly a gimmick for me. All in all I would say that this is a well-designed gimmick with a lot of potential, but finding the right time and place to use it is very important.

Magic and Mentalism of Barrie Richardson #1 by Barrie Richardson and L&L - DVD

Thumbs up! 3 stars : good : Walker McCright from california : Its not true: "The Inexplicable Bill in Lemon Effect - A reputation-making effect where a bill, marked in three completely different ways, is found inside of a lemon taken from a small, sealed box that was in the possession of a member of the audience. This is one of Barrie Richardson's most commercial effects. What's more, the routine is virtually self-working!" Everything but the torn corner is in the lemon.Still worth it! Mind control uses a very fascinating and useful method. I can sea myself doing this one.

Chinese Linking Rings (12 inch, CHROME) by Vincenzo Difatta - Trick

Thumbs up! 5 stars : love my rings : Anonymous from wichita, ks : I now feel like a real magician. I know this is an old trick but very impressive. These rings are heavy and look good. The price is right, go ahead and don't even consider smaller rings or those made of other materials. Get the real deal!

Exact Change by Gregory Wilson

Thumbs up! 4 stars : president : from Minneapolis, Mn. : Fabulous! I had figured out what it probably was, prior to getting it in the mail.

Nice, easy effect....with minimal practice.

I normally carry several effects in the pocket I now use for "Exchange", so I had to make some changes there....because it has to be alone in the pocket.

Thanks for the creative work!

Bill 2 Can (Pro Series Vol 6) by Paul Romhany - Book

Thumbs down. 2 stars : Weak : Anonymous from LA : I think the whole premise was not thought out well and it's not worth the money for a weak "one-trick pony". The reason I believe it is weak is because the can may say "beans" on the label, but it is clearly empty. If you are opening an empty can of beans for your climax, it screams of the can being tampered with from the onset. Good magic should always have a justification, and there is not a good justification for the "dissapearance of the beans". This effect would be better as just one entry in a book of 101 magic tricks with household items instead of a single trick for sale. My advice: Skip this one, there is much better stuff on Penguin.

Tool by David Stone

Thumbs up! 4 stars : have patience with this one!...it's worth it! : Don Podlas from Oregon : ..."Most of the reviews of "Tool have been pretty mixed. Personally, I like it. You have to engage the creative side of the brain though. It actually comes with some nice routines but it's capable of so much more. And yes, it is a bit fragile! So protect it accordingly....a plastic box or something like that. Anyway, it's a quality product with a lot of potential...you'll dig this one!...One of David's best!
