This book will help you find ways to implement these techniques into your own work immediately and how to maximize the techniques you may already be familiar with and are already using.

"This is a truly ambitious project. A graduate course in Social Psychology very well referenced with the latest research applicable to the performance of mentalism. You cannot fail to be in awe of the effort and stimulated to perfect your routines and create new ones. Application of these techniques will turn your tricks into what appears to be the real thing."

"This book is a wealth of source material for performers who wish to enhance their work by infusing it with psychological concepts. This glimpse of real research (written by a PhD student of psychology with an understanding of mentalism and magic... and a solid performer to boot) will spark your imagination with powerful possibilities and intriguing premises. Mr. Luttrell has produced a fantastic review of academic literature on a wide range of topics within social psychology. If you haven't read Kahneman, Areily, Bargh, and others' original research, then this book is a great place to introduce yourself to the field. There are not very many presentational ideas or routines here, as the focus of the book is clearly on reviewing important concepts and studies in social psychology. The bibliography and suggested reading list are top notch, and are useful resources for those who want pursue further study.

I've taken one star off the review because the book contains several typos and formatting errors (one wonders if it was edited at all), and for the completely unnecessary, self indulgent foreword written by Patrick Redford.

This is an academic look at psychology in mentalism.
If you present as a psychological mentalist, this will save you much legwork.
This is NOT a book to go to for mentalism effects imo.
It has a few presentational ideas.
this is mainly a text that seems to sit in the same catagory as Jon Thompsons Naked Mentalism series.

II think this was a necessary book.
Just be aware of what exactly it is.

I'm very happy with this purchase.

I was very privileged to see some of the early work on this book, and having read the final copy I'm floored. It's amazing. This book should be required reading for anyone who is going to do any type of magical performance for a real audience. Andy is a gifted psychologist who's work has been featured on NPR, and he is an excellent writer as well as wonderful performer. This belongs on everyone's shelf.
