The performer removes a paperclipped and folded card from his pocket and sets it in full view of the audience. A card is then freely selected, signed and returned to the deck. And yet, when the performer unclips the folded card and slowly unfolds is found to be the signed card! This is a truly mind-blowing impossibility.

What are magicians saying about Paper-Clipped?

"An astonishing trick! I perform it every night of the weeek!" - Chad Long

"One of my favorite effects. A modern classic." - Joshua Jay

"You can almost see the spectator's brain snap!" - Richard Sanders

"Paperclipped would make a statue gasp!" - Jason Maloney

"Delivers the highest impact possible in any magic effect." - Allan Ackerman

"A killer effect with instant reset. Definitely for real workers." - Marc Paul

"What all close-up magic should be like." - David Peck

History of This Effect

In 1990, Jay published a trick entitled "#*@!" in his book, 100% Sankey. Since then, the routine has gained an ever growing popularity and a worldwide reputation, especially among "real workers." This is the one trick of Jay's that almost every magician uses.

What You Get

Now, for the very first time, Jay's astonishing "card in paperclip" is fully explained, along with his other killer effects, "Bank Night," Mental Photography," "Card in Egg," and "Torn and Restored Business Card" routines, presentational suggestions, psychological fine points and the all-important "touches" only gained from years of performing experience are all fully covered. This unique video also includes Jay's tips on using the switch with bills, matchbooks, nail writers, cocktail napkins and much more!

I love to smile and laugh as most of us do. I was able to do lots of both watching Jay Sankey.

This isn't brand new but it holds it's own with the very best of the very best illusions being released today.

Brilliant minds sometimes go in several directions at once.
Mr. Sankey does that but always manages to bring everything together to make brilliant memorable points as he walks you slowy and carefully step by step through his illustion so nothing will be hard to grasp.

I'm still a beginner and the effect takes practice. For me, at least 4 hours to feel comfortable showing it, but it is oh so worth it!

I was feeling a bit down last night so I popped in Mr. Sankey and was laughing out loud again...WHILE LEARNING

If you aren't such a big fan of silly humor, don't let that stop you from learning a genius method from a genius.

1. The effect is easy to understand thanks to the teacher. medium difficulty (for a beginner) to achieve,

2 I would rate it 9.2 on the Awesomeness scale of 10 as far as impact on your audience.

3. AND, this is an effect that can be done anytime anywhere at a moments notice with a 2 second reset.

4. You won't have to repurchase anything! You just will need an ordinary everyday paperclip and some cards.

I am so happy with this purchase. :)

I was wrong Report this review

My first impression of the basic technique and the way it was used in routines, was that it was "too magical". In other words, you didn't leave room for the spectator to come to any other conclusion, other than the fact you must've pulled off a very deceptive switch.

So my fear was that instead of getting a "How did you do that?" reaction, I'd get a "When did you switch it?" reaction. As it turns out, I was completely wrong. Maybe because the finish is so disorienting, the spectator simply can't process it right away. Maybe the next day they're able to deconstruct it, but by then, I'm long gone.

So yes, I'd recommend this very highly. Aside from the great reactions, it's really very easy to do. And whether you're laughing with him or at him, Jay's tutoring is always fun to watch.

Sankey at His Best Report this review

This is one of my favorite Jay Sankey effects out there. The only preparation you need is to fold a card and put a paperclip on it. The rest is impromptu. You can let the spectator choose any card they want. They can even name a card and take it. There is no force that you need. The card is then even signed. There is a bit of slight of hand involved but nothing too difficult. For a great trick that is good to do under all circumstances pick this up.

Hi. This is your official PenguinMagic reviewer, B_Magic.

Now THIS is worth a purchase! BUY IT RIGHT NOW! You can't seriously still be reading this without having it added to your cart! ADD IT!

Jay Sankey is a genius. Now I will warn you, he can be a little bit of a character sometimes, which for me can get annoying. When I'm in magic mode, I get tired of all the DVDs with pointless babble and overtalk right in the middle of learning the trick, which does happen here.

However this is a great trick and you will be stunning audiences for a long time with this one, as long as you put the proper work into its presentation. This effect is not very difficult at all to do, which is why extra work must be put into the presentation to make it killer.

You gotta get this one.

The best card trick Report this review

If i were in a life or death situation and someone said to perform a trick i would do this. It had a great plot with an unbeleivable finish. I have performed this trick hundreds of times and the best part is you can hide the card wherever you want beforhand.

I really cannot recommend this DVD enough. This DVD not only teaches a post-modern classic I perform anywhere and everywhere, but it blows people away! The moves used in the trick are explained over and over so you do not have to rewind. Jay is also quite funny while teaching this stuff. I learned this trick in two decks and thirty minutes after watching this DVD because of how well it is taught. I have been introduced to the principles before, but when he taught them like this it clicked! This is my favourite trick now! The move is always going to fool people and it comes with a host of other uses on the DVD! Anyone could take the principle and apply it to at least a dozen different tricks right of the bat! That wasn't only the best part! An equally funny and well taught part comes at the end, with the five bonus routines. Mating Season, taught on this is now a definite part of my working repitore, hitting hard and so simple! It also helped me to create many routines. I cannot stress this enough, so help me, Penguinmagic, and Jay Sankey by putting this in your cart now!

Worth suffering through the DVD Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 13th, 2007
Sitting through Jay Sankey's instructional footage is one of the most agonizing experiences of my life. Not only does his cameraman swing around and zoom in and out for no apparent reason, but Jay's juvenile attempts at humor (mostly pointless references to nudity and underwear) take about as much time as the actual instruction. The whole thing could have been half as long. If you're 11 years old, you may find him hilarious. Just my honest personal reaction.

Now, with that said, please note how many stars I gave it. The only reason I gave it 5 stars is because I couldn't give it 10! This is far-and-away THE BEST card trick I've ever encountered. Jay Sankey is not the first genius to be somewhat eccentric. You can choose to concentrate on how annoying he is, or you can learn from him.

Be prepared for a different kind of reaction to this one! People will very often not clap or cheer; they won't say "wow" or "what the bleep"; They just sit there in silence as their brain unravels!

Whenever you do Paperclipped, use it as your closer. DON'T DO ANOTHER EFFECT AFTER THIS ONE. Finish the trick and don't say anything else. Just spread the cards for them to examine and walk away.

The DVD would be worth the 30 bucks if this were the only trick on it! But you get several more, along with some other good hints and tips on your magic performance. So just relax and listen to the genius.

More than I hoped for Report this review

Wow !! After seeing this trick I had to have it, but, I thought 30 bucks for a trick is kinda pricy. Let me stop here and say you get your moneys worth with this DVD.

Jay's humor is there the whole time and his great method of teaching follows suit.

The actuall routines you get along with paperclipped (5 or 6) are all very different, and using the same theory, Jay offers you THE MOST you can get out of this effect.

Besides the trick you see in the demo, you get like 3 other tricks using the paperclip that are highly usable plus some that are situational,, but still great to have in your routine. "Torn and restored business card" is a great trick to know.

Then there is the bonus material which I was very pleased with. I have actually used some of the stuff in the bonus material more than I have the main effect.

All in all a great buy. If your spending on magic you could find tons worse than this DVD.

Card magicians add to cart. If you want to learn some cool tricks with a paperclip (everyday object) add to cart. If you are still reading this , stop, and add to cart.

One of Jay's Most Popular Tricks Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on June 4th, 2005
This is a great effect!

This is one of Jay Sankey’s most popular and Classic effects. This effect is easy to learn and it plays big. Magicians still talk about this trick and use it in their repertoire.

Jay Sankey is one of the most innovative Magicians living and he is also a nice person. I would suggest that you purchase every Jay Sankey book, DVD or trick that you can find and get your hands on, because Jay Sankey’s effects are easy to perform, and he uses everyday objects for his magic.

By reading Jay Sankey’s books, watching his DVDs, or performing his tricks, you will learn all your basic magic techniques, simply and quickly. Jay Sankey is a great teacher and he will teach you the practical handling, technique and magic theory needed to perform every effect.

Some people may not like his type or style of humor but I personally think that he is hilarious. Jay’s comedy will make your learning fun and he will keep you interested and laughing.

Sankey Does it Again Report this review

Sankey is probably the Marlo of our day, and this is another great one of his creations. This trick is the ultimate topper to any ambitious card routine. Personally, I wouldn't use it as a closer to the whole act but it definitely has the potential to act as such.

This one does take a fair amount of practice to be done PROPERLY. This isn't one of those tricks where you watch the video and run into the next room to show Aunt Marcy. To flawlessly get this down you'll have to set aside some time to practice. But, it will be very much worth it.
