"Showoff Vol. 3" is undoubtedly both more polished and audacious than its two predecessors (the groundbreaking "Showoff" was released in 1999 followed by a second equally important volume "Showoff 2" in 2001) and is almost certainly destined to be recognized as one of the most important collections of card flourishes ever released.

The sort of thing you buy just to complete the set Report this review

We all know the guy has incredible skills. Also, I really like Show Off 1,2 & GenX. I didn't like this. I have three issues with it:
1) Very familiar. The moves are just combinations or variations on things you've seen before. With enough prior XCM experience these are the sorts of moves you will have thought up yourself.
The "Tudor Tower" - just a 7 packet line cut from the table to his nose. Like I haven't seen that a thousand times.
Asher, "diving board shouldn't be a double!" - the title speaks for itself. It's Lee Asher's diving board double with a packet rather than two cards.
2) He makes a big deal out of how original the revolution cuts are, then does REV 4. This is an needlessly awkward version of a cut I've done and seen other people do for as long as I can remember. It was the same for REV 3 (It's just something people come up with when they get their Charlier wrong). Also REV 2 was a variation on a cut people have been doing since before he was born. Maybe he thought these up independently but they were not original. REV 1 I will give him, and it is brilliant.
3) Without the swearing and ranting it's only about 15mins long for 11 flourishes. Having said this, I actually think the teaching is OK on most of the moves as long as the people watching have enough XCM experience to be remotely capable of them.
Overall, if you're really into your XCM and you have the money to burn then you might get a couple of things from this, probably not any more than that. If that's not you then look elsewhere.

This DVD is not that bad. People don't like the DVD because he doesn't explain things thoroughly. I think he does fine. If you can't see that this the THIRD volume. You obviously have to purchase the first two. You wouldn't watch a movie by starting with the last third!!! In order to learn the moves he assumes you already know, I would suggest purchasing Generation Extreme. You can buy it on Penguin under the XCM section on the left. Generation X teaches you the first three one-handed revolutions, many sible variations that you need to know, and the original Castro Cut. (there are two variations on this DVD) Once you have mastered all, or at least most of, the material on Generation X, buy this. It is awesome.
The only reason it did not receive 5 stars is because of the cussing. There is a lot of it, but, I must say, Penguin does warn you about it. With the previous knowledge required to understand the moves, this DVD is great.
People are just too lazy and do not want to practice. Anything worth doing, including XCM, requires lots of practice. It is just that simple. If you are willing to put in the practice time, you will seriously increase your skill.
My favorite moves are Rev 4 and 5, the Tudor Tower (I invented a slight variation to get !9! vertical packets!), and the Tudor Production.
Overall, I think it is good.
ADD TO CART!(once you have mastered Generation X!!)

I really didn't know what to say after watching this the first time... The flourishes presented here take TONS of skill and are HIGHLY original. Now, does that mean this is a good DVD?
Nope. Because it lacks ONE element that would make this DVD a 4 star. TEACHING.
He basically performs the flourishes. Then there is ONE little clip of it in slow-mo (maybe 2 clips) that last for a few seconds, and then Brian comes on there and curses out other flourishers and talks about how he is the best in the world.
I definitely don't recommend this DVD.
Sad for Tudor... Report this review

Hi guys...I'm a big fan of Tudor's work on card flourishing, and thought he was the very best till now...I just finished looking at the very short vol.3 of the amazing Show Off series...nothing compare to the 2 first parts...
I'm really desappointed, and after thinking that it's a shame to release a DVD like this, I fell just sad now for Tudor, because he is really really angry, and he shows it openly!
Before any explanation I should mention: BEGINNERS IN CARDS FLOURISHING: RUN AWAY and buy yourself onother volume like the 1 and the 2nd...YOU'RE NOT GOING TO LEARN ANYTHING here...NOTHING!!!
Even when you know already all the mooves that he's using, it's nearly impossible to follow! For nearly every flourish, it goes like this:
- first the demo,
- than 1 or 2 times "speed" slow motion with 2 different angles,
- and than, when he fell like doing it, some vocal "angry" explanations, like if we had to fell miserable to need his words to understand the flourish...
Finally, just look at it and try to figure it out by your own, but his angry attitude just made me want to turn it off.
("So...why 3 stars...???")
Than, at the very end of the DVD, Tudor speaks and explain his feeling, and shows his warrior face...he's been so much criticized for everything that he's now very angry and ready to fight everyone against his art...
THIS MAN IS A CREATOR, and brought so much to card flourish that it's a shame to clash him for his bad explanations in all of his DVDs...he said it, "I'm not good with words!!!", what could he do more? He showed the world his creations (think about how oftenly-used is the one hand revolution 1 in cards flourish...and I don't mention his works on the Sybil...) and the world blame him for that??? Because not a good teacher??? I don't agree...people made him became angry...and that's why I put 3 stars to this DVD that you should buy only if you want to thanks Tudor and show him your support and recognition on what he did for cards flourish...othewise, don't buy it.

Flourish with Attitude Report this review

I have to agree with the other reviewer who said that it is unfortunate to see Tudor express his anger the way he did. But in all honesty, I think the attitudes portrayed throughout this DVD shows the devotion and the passion this man has for art of card magic. Listen to what he says carefully: they are not simply a rant; they carry more meaning than they seem. Apply what he says to our own performance in magic (I assume most of us purchase magic rather than take time to create an effect); shopping here for the latest effect may be a quick fix, but creating one's own material should be far more gratifying. Tudor will tell you the same thing, but you gotta buy the DVD just to see how he says it; I love it.
My favorite quote in the DVD was where he said "The argument from oldschool magicians say that "don't show off skill because it takes away from magic"... it's true, but so is comedy". There are other anecdotes Tudor blurts out that I agree with him wholeheartedly.
Personally, I believe that if people can fully master the flourishes that he throws at them, wasting valuable minutes with technical terms for every single minute detail is indeed a waste of time. Given the kind of material Tudor has to teach, criticizing his "poor" instructional skills (which I don't think is poor at all, considering the multiple-angle and slow motions he shows, it's no better or worse than Buck Twins System) is inappropriate in comparison to other magic instructions. Plus, he'll tell you all the information you need to know anyway. The rest is a knack; folks, it's an instruction flourish for XCM(and a very difficult one at that), it has to be, otherwise everybody would be able to do it.
I recommend this DVD to those who can digest Tudor's previous flourish materials. Don't pay attention to other reviews for criticizing instructional quality because all the information is there to do this. (except for the very last cut, which even Tudor can't fathom to explain... it's hilarious yet mesmerizing at the same time of how this man does this without even thinking)

This is my first purchase of a Brian Tudor product and I really liked it! This guy is awesome with his flourishes and the time, effort and patience he puts into his creations show! I need to purchase his first 3 dvds so that I can learn more! I learned from his dvd, and in my opinion everybody teaches in their own way,in the end what matters is what you've learned, right? Brian Tudor is very talented and if you want to learn his awesome flourishes, don't let these negative reviews keep you from learning from the best! MAGIC--> LEARN IT! KNOW IT! LIVE IT!
Great material Report this review

Alright, I give this 5 stars for what Tudor created, which is amazing. All these flourishes are awesome for lack of constuctive words and you will find them great and use them.
This said though, this material is HARD! Not only that but Brian teaching isn't full and step-by-step, which is ok. He's trying to get you to make variations, he even tells you to create your own material in the DVD.
Also, begginers run away. No not Generation Extreme run away, I mean get the heck outta Dodge run away! You will not, I repeat not get this material. Get XB and the System and Generation Extreme and the other Showoffs and all that stuff before this!
Even if you think you're ready being an advanced flourisher, you aren't. Penguin should move the warning on Gen. Ex. to here because this time it's dead serious and I'm dead serious.
This DVD was shot by Brian Tudor for Brian Tudor, you will get little out of Brian's creative mind by getting this.
I got nothing out of this, it's way too advanced, but don't let this ease you hereing a begginer (me) say this, this stuff is still hard.
Go buy a svengali deck and be happy, and if you want the most modern cutting edge card manipulation, click off this page and go elsewhere because this is beyond modern, it's Tudor.
DON'T BUY IT! Report this review

This is a piece of garbage.
Throughout the whole thing he seems to be angry and not really desiring to share his secrets. He keeps cursing every 5 words and doesn't really explains what he's doing.
In a few words, the material is good, but the explanation is not.
If you're not into XCM do not even bother to begin to consider to buy this DVD. Only after you've mastered some XCM moves and have watched his previous works, THEN start to begin to consider to buy it.
