Unlike similar products on the market, Universal Impression never needs to worry about messy liquids, smudges or smears, fallible electronics or accidental erasing of impression. Your audience will be completely astounded by your ability to read their minds and convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt of your authenticity. Limitless in its versatility, Universal Impression can be used with a card box, a wallet, books, a pack of cigarettes, or any number of other common items present during impromptu performances. There are many gimmicks on the market but this is the first designed for various close-up magic situations. Good, but Not Quite Great... Report this review

I like Universal Impression, however, it's not my favorite impression device.

I find that sometimes the impressions are fairly difficult to read, which makes the trick more difficult to perform. I have tried rearanging the gimmick quite a bit and every time run into the same problems with lighting.

However, when the trick is working, it knocks people dead!!! Any drawing can be instantly known even after the spectator has pulled the paper away or wiped the drawing away.

The reactions for it are really strong, when you can get the impression.

I like the effect a lot, I just wish the impression was a bit easier to see in certain lighting conditions.

I also feel that the effect might be priced a little bit high. I feel that for the price that it is I didn't quite get what I was hoping for.

Very good but a little disappointed with its quality... Report this review

The kind of effects you can achieve with this gimmick are mind-blogging. However, I was a little disappointed with the quality of the impression. Nonetheless I have used the gimmick, with a different handling given I didn't like the ones he present, and have gotten huge reactions. This is the kind of magic your spectators will talk about for years.

ok here's the deal.i've bought and tried to learn lots of the mentalism products out there.i became frustrated and disapointed w. the methods used 2 accomplish certain effects.theres always some shady gimmick or stooge or 'ify' and not 100%.i need pure.i got this with this effect.study this and get in the zone in the mirror and present this well.easy easy easy to use if u put in the time.the device will do everything for you. all u have to do is "be" the shaman,or mentalist or whatever.seriously guys(and girls ,if any)grab this and go 4 it.my card and coin effects have taken me only so far.this has people talking 4 real!!!

MIND BLOWING! Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on April 17th, 2011
I saw this advertisement and said, "I KNOW WHAT IT IS AND IT'S BRILLIANT!!!!" I went out and bought one of those writers for children, broke it apart and tried recreating what I saw.
By NO MEANS did it compare to this Gimmick! I understand what the comment below is about, the quality "seems" bad, but it really isn't. This bad boy's in my pocket constantly!
I live by the old saying, "Once is a trick, twice is a lesson!" This one does NOT apply! I've done it over and over and nobody knows the wiser.
There is a suggestion I have though, if you're into mentalism and PK type performances, definitely have The Bat set up or something of the sort for quick resets. Also, I keep multiple writing pads (identicle) on me all the time "just in case".
Robert, great work on this!

Great Report this review

The gimmick for this trick is great- you can put it just about anywhere. There are so many different ways you can use it.
Robert Smith does a great job explaining several different ways you can use it. however, Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't find him ever explaining how to reset it- though it's not too difficult to figure out.
Anyway, this is a great trick, highly versatile. I would definitely recommend checking it out.

The Best. Report this review

Okay so not everyone is going to agree with me but I think this is the best impression device I've come across (and I have tried most versions on the market). The concept isn't anything new and the gimmicks are only up to a mediocre standard but the may Robert Smith has put the whole device together and combined concepts into this, the result is brilliant.

I love it because from a spectator's point of view they write something down on a piece of paper (without the magician seeing) they then take the paper and put it into their pocket so the magician definitely cannot see what is written. And yet within moment's the magician is able to reveal the word. If you won't something straightforward and doesn't require any switching then this is for you!

Good principle, not so good execution Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on April 3rd, 2010
I really liked the idea behind this. It's brilliant actually. The only problem is the quality of the gimmick itself. Maybe mine wasn't as good as the others, I don't know. But the results are not consistent and therefore to me unreliable.

I've used this in my normal routine for a while, but after a few failed performances Im reluctant to. If the product was of better quality, I think this trick could go quite far. Until then, it'll have to settle for 3 stars.

I do have to give them props for the video though. They did a great job explaining everything, from how to replace certain gimmicks and innovative ways how to use it. Some of them were simply mad crazy. -so that at least is worth an honorable mention.

With that said, I think the product is currently over priced.

Best mentalism ever Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on April 2nd, 2010
This is amazing. I just use a memo pad and no one knows a thing, but there are many other ways to do it. It works every time, it just takes a little audience management. I usually draw a big box and say to draw a number nice and big inside the middle of the box. The reason for this is that it is going to be like charlie and the chocolate factory. You know when he transports the big hershey bar into the tv? This is going to be the same thing, you have to draw it big because I am only going to get some of the fragments in the number and I will need to still be able to see it in my head. If you say this there is no way you can mess up. The gimmick is genius and the robert does a great job of using some alternative ways to do the trick. One of my favorite tricks and my favorite mentalism trick ever. If you don't buy this you are making a mistake.

Great Utility Device Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on April 2nd, 2010
Universal impression…an incredible device that will allow you to covertly find out what information was just written down by a spectator. There are a number of routines described on the dvd, which utilize the gimmick to great effect.

The really great thing about this gimmick, though, is it’s diversity. Think about the power given by the ability to indetectably discover what was just written down. This will give you that power.

Highly recommended…add to cart!

this one is on the border for me Report this review

while it is a nice impression device...it isnt consistant. as a mentalist im moving away from impression and sticking to billet switches and center tears. however, as far as impressions go this is a cool pad that will work 4/5 times but that isnt as consistant as i would like
