Healed and Sealed Soda (David Blaine) by Anders Moden Get enormous reactions when you perform the effect David Blaine used in Vertigo to entertain the world.
Price: $12.00
Out of stock.

The performer shows the audience an empty, crushed can of soda. Magically, the can starts to unfold and all the dents pops out until the sides are perfectly straight again (see the photos above). Then, with just a touch, the opening seals up. The can is now in perfect condition, as if it has been moved backwards in time. It is not only healed and sealed, but the can has also become magically refilled, which is shown as the performer opens the can and pour himself a drink.

One normal can is used. The soda is normal, and can be consumed. The can is handed out. No switch.

This effect was invented by Anders Moden in 1997. In 2002, the TV-rights for this effect was bought by David Blaine and it was performed in the TV-show "Vertigo".

You will learn

  • How to crush the can in full view.
  • How to start the effect with a full, unopened normal can wich you open, empty, crush THEN Heal and Seal and open again, once again pouring the drink.
  • Variations suitable for different situations: Stage, close-up and (almost) impromptu.
  • Several different ways to prepare for the effect.
  • Examples of how to use this principle for a transposition effect.
  • Manufacturer Says

    Why do I sell this?

Well, I didn't mean to at first. I, Anders Moden, created this effect in 1997 and published it in Bruce Barnett's "Electronic Grimoire" (EG). The australian magician Tim Ellis, a member of EG, made a highly acclaimed tour with this effect as his signature piece in the US in the spring of 2002. Then the rumour about the effect reached the team behind David Blaine, and the TV-rights for the effect was instantly bought. But only hours after David Blaine performed it on TV, the "gold diggers" struck... An effect was sold on eBay that falsely claimed to be what Blaine had performed. Of course, crucial details was missing (for example; it did not contain the eye-popping restoration phase).

This "pretend-to-be" manuscript is unfortunately still in circulation. Also, recently a booklet became available at some magic dealers that describes the basic effect somewhat correctly, but very brief and not crediting me at all.

So I decided to "strike back" and collected all the ideas and variations that I, and friends of mine, have come up with since 1997. I hope that the word will spread and people will not have to spend money on inferior copies.

    Testimonials
Matthew Field commented on this trick when performed by Tim Ellis on Monday Magic in New York: "This is one of the most astonishing things I've witnessed in a long, long time!"

Wayne Shipman followed up by saying, "The soda can restoration was drop-dead magic. Rooms full of jaded magicians were exclaiming "NO!" and "NO WAY!" During the Saturday evening show, the row behind me made a comment (they were magicians) during the soda can restoration: "The man's a personal friend of Satan..."

Spectacular effect. Absolutely ingenious. Best trick i have ever bought...handsdown." - Joshua

How does your brain work? Thank you for being so devious, I cannot wait to literally wipe peoples perceptions right out of their brains with this." - David

Hi! This is your official PenguinMagic reviewer, B_Magic.

Healed and Sealed is a genius effect, perhaps one of the most genius ideas I've seen in a long time. I was stunned when I purchased this effect, just by the diabolical nature of the trick!

That said, it's not something I perform much anymore. It's not that the trick isn't good, on the contrary, I feel its a fantastic effect. But it isn't very practical. I personally like hard hitting effects, which this can be, that are easily transported and are straightforward to do, which this is not. The trick requires a bit of set up, which is worth it in some cases when the conditions would be right (like a big company barbecue where co-workers are sure to ask you to perform something), it isn't worth the setup for most everyday situations. The setup is not hard, but does require you to carry things on you and be away from your audience for a bit to set everything up.

Again, its a genius effect and one I'm glad to know. It's something that I will do situationally, but not something I do regularly. I'd recommend it though to those who feel they could get more use out of it. It really is a good effect!

Lot of Set Up Report this review

I bought this a few years ago, and have yet to perform it. It just requires too much set up, and it has to be the right situation/environment. It just doesn't really fit into my routine. Given the right situation, it probably would blow people's minds (as David Blaine did in his specials). I would recommend spending your money on something else.

Update on Cans Report this review

This is a fabulous trick that is awe inspiring and leaves people speechless. While I do it I often say, "This is impossible... There's no way this can be happening..." People find that amusing. I last reported that can companies now use such thin, cheap metal for their cans, it practically rendered this trick obsolete. I have now FOUND cans that are still strong enough to perfom this illusion! If you have a Whole Foods Market near you, their 365 brand of soft drinks works like a charm. I like the Club Soda as it has no sugar (so no sticky mess), but there are many types to choose from. It's still not a super recognizable can, but the Club Soda just looks like an off brand for mixed drinks at a party. You can also do the "dirty work" in strategic place on the label, allowing you to even pass it out afterward. I've never been caught. I hand them the can and say, "Here it's a real can... take it home if you like." A miracle.

    Incredible...but... Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on January 20th, 2011
This is an incredible effect that truly blows people away... at least, it used to. To my great dismay, soda and beer companies have decied to save money by making their cans with thinner aluminum. Therefore, it is almost impossible to do this effect without soda (or beer) shooting out through the inevitable cracks that form in the aluminum during this trick. I used to preceed this trick with Cris Angel's quarter through the can, would crumple the can and toss it in the trash, have a second thought and bring out my "Healed and Sealed" setup can, pretending it was the one I just threw out. BUT, they have also now made the openings of soda and beer smaller, so a quarter won't fit without pushing it, making a nickel more practical. I found two canning companies in Miami (Sunshine and CAWY) and one of their sodas is called MATERVA, that still uses thicker aluminum and wider mouths. It works, but it's not a familiar brand so I say, "Interesting what people are drinking these days." What's good is since I have passed out the can afterward without detection, they don't suspect the unusual can as having anything to do with the trick. The longer beer cans work better, but there's a high chance of leaking with all of them. Too bad becasuse it's an incredible trick (though usually needs to be done within 20 minutes of set up or you lose the "fizz." Great trick if you can find old soda cans.

A Little Set Up But Worth The Work Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 22nd, 2010
First I will say this trick will be hard to fit into your normal routine. The set up can be a little time consuming but it's really worth it.

I find this trick is more suited for parties and such. I've done this trick with cans of beer and it was a huge hit. It's very visual and really hits home.

If done properly you can make people think you've used thier empty beer/soda can. It's all about being settle.

I love clever thinking and this trick is full of it. I drink a lot of pop so I love tricks that utilize pop cans, full and empty. This looks like an absolute miracle. There is some prep work but it will blow people away. For my working performance venues this is totally impractical though, which is why for me it only gets a 3. I just don't have any real opportunity to perform it all that much. If you constantly have friends at your house though, do yourself a favor and get this.

Could be better Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on April 5th, 2010
Okay this effect is strong, but set up takes a lot and isn't too examinable, also is a bit hard to do too close up. I think the whole method could be better but overall its okay, it's just it has to be done quite soon after set up so wont fit most performing situations but its all good.

    Great effect Report this review

This is an excellent effect and will get a wonderful response everytime without exception. It does require a fair amount of set up but this gets easy once you get it down. The nice part is that once it is set up the trick itself is very simple to perform and will keep them guessing for a long time.

For ages I was teasing my friends about this effect, I kept describing it to them but never actually performed it. And then one day we walked into town and I spotted a coke can and I did this trick for them- it blew their mind. I had spent about four months building up the guts to do this trick but when I did perform it, it went incredibly well. Don't be put off by the fact it will require some guts to perform because the end result is worthit!

You've probably seen David Blaine do this on T.V. It's even more amazing when you see it in person. The reactions you get from this trick will be worth far more than you pay for this effect. The handling is very smooth and easy to do and doesn't even require a lot of time to practice.

The downside to this trick is that there is a lot of preparation to do but from my own experience it is worth it. I did this in my high school years ago and it blew everyone away. They went wild. If you are looking for a trick that people will remember you for, this is it. Buy this with your next order and you will not be disappointed.
