Infact, here's my little routine for this one:

I simply apporach my spactator as if I was trying to remove a cap from an old pen.
I say: "Ahh! This is so hard to open! Can you try to open it for me please?"

- Then I simply hand it to them with the most innocent face in the world, and watch their facial expressions change from "generous help" to "AHH!!! What the..."

I ordered mine on Penguin Magic, however, looks different to the one pictured. The result/effect is great but the quality of the pen could be better (I am thinking of transfering it to a shell of a better quality pen or maybe even a sharpie).

I use it when doing a signed card trick, works a treat (no one has really questioned the "cheapness" look of the pen yet). The person opening the pen gets the biggest fright and the rest of the audience laugh there heads off - human nature... arent we cruel.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy this pen; incredibly high quality, looks COMPLETELY normal, and it has a FANTASTIC shock factor.

This pen comes with several refills, so you can perform it a ton of times. However, if you do run out of refills, they are REALLY inexpensive and TOTALLY worth it.

I have gotten some great freak-out moments with this thing, and it fits in well with a lot of magic effects.

This is the only gag I have and I'm sure that there may be better tricks but I really LOVE the exploding pen! People will throw it, jump inches up in the air and they will be shocked for a long time! I did this at a lesson in school and a guy asked for borrow a pen and first I said No, he only had a pencil in about an inch high so he thought it was useless so he threw a pencil at my head and of course I was angry on him, and I did got lucky because I had my Exploding Pen to the classroom so I turned myself around, asked him if he wanted to borrow a pen and he said OK. When he got it he said "I'm sure this is a magical pen" and right at that moment he opened up the pen and BANG! He jumped inches from his chair in the air! After that my teacher sent that guy out of the classroom, well, I love paybacks! :-D BUY THIS! You won't regret it!!! And for the price, it's extremely cheap! GET IT! Get this and add two packs of caps for the exploding pen. Caps aren't included.

This pen is a brilliant gag to pull on anyone. It looks like a weird and stupid mechanism when you see it, but once you learn how to use it, it's an awesome prank. Buy the caps with it, of course. It would have gotten a full 5 stars if the mechanism was made a bit differently. If it was mounted in place it might be better, but like someone else commented, they thought it was broken and got in for a real close look. For the cheap price this is definetly a must buy.

This is one of the most GREATEST PRANKS ever! It only failed once! It even works with suspicious people! TOTALLY AMAZING!

Excellent and it comes with a great price. I do children shows and whenever there is an annoying kid I finish the show with this prank. It doesn't come with caps so make sure you buy the small caps.

It is a great gag. I use it when I need someone to sign a card. Then you play up the next black pen you give them. It's cool to see the response time it takes for people to jump. Sometimes they will jump or throw it. I did this to an ex marine and he did nothing but look at it. If it's not funny to them it is a great laugh for you! Oh, can't beat the price.
