Self Working Card Tricks (SWCT) with Jay Noblezada (DVD) Noblezada is BACK with a full card magic DVD. The most powerful card magic without sleight of hand! NOW SHIPPING. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
In stock: usually ships within 24 hours!
Jay Noblezada is a sleight of hand expert and world renowned magic teacher. In fact he’s the man behind the best ever selling sleight of hand coin magic DVD (In the Beginning there were Coins).
But always looking to grow, for the last 5 years, Jay threw himself obsessively into the world of hypnosis. The impact on his magic? Three words:
“Effect is EVERYTHING.”
Sleights have NOTHING to do with how strong an effect is. In fact, some of the STRONGEST tricks you can do require no sleight of hand at all. And ironically, because they’re “easy”, some of the “best” magicians don’t perform them!
Today, Jay Noblezada the magician is back.
For the first time in 5 years, “Self Working Card Tricks” is Noblezada at his best doing what he’s known for: Teaching great magic.
“Jay is a great teacher and goes into each sleight and phase of the routine with detail, I have actually stopped a lot of the card tricks I had previously did and substituted them for this.” - James D, Ontario
“Jay is one of the best teachers on dvd I’ve seen.” -Jack, Singapore
“Jay Noblezada is a great teacher and really get close up to learn each trick” - Evan Lachman, Walnut Creek
“Jay Noblezada is one of the best young teachers on DVD on the planet. He is an accomplished sleight of hand magician who demos his routines for real people, on the street, for jaw dropping reactions.” Tim W, Cedar Rapids
Whether you’ve never performed card tricks before, or you’re looking for some solid go-to material, SWCT delivers.
CHOOSE FIVE: You can now also get SWCT as part of your Choose Five order. And you’ll be happy to know it’s part of the “green” group ;) http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/1902

As an amateur and novice, I rarely do anything technically difficult, and have an arsenal full of self-working tricks I love. I also find great value in video as a learning tool as well as books. In that context, without slamming on self-working tricks or video learning, I just don't feel like they go together well. The tricks and performance section are pretty much a waste: the discussion of theory and patter is too thin to recommend over other sources, and you can get equal (or better) tricks from printed sources at the fraction of the cost. Don't get me wrong, I love Gemini Twins and perform it; but why not learn (an arguably cleaner version of) Do As I Do way cheaper from Scarne On Card Tricks?
However, the DVD really turns around in the latter half when Noblezada shows performances (with occasional problems and realistic reactions, not the carefully edited screams of delight most DVDs restrict themselves to) and dissects what went well and what didn't and how he made the best of the situation. A talk with Gary Darwin is occasionally unfocused, but you get a pile of wisdom from a real pro on making the most of your practice time and avoiding unnecessarily difficult sleights when there are suitable replacements. I enjoyed this, found value in it, and think others (especially beginners in card magic) would as well.
I love it when a product goes beyond just teaching me the secret to a trick, and tries to make me a better magician overall. I think a new cut of the footage that focused on this and presented the tricks as more of a "bonus" to reinforce intangible principles (in much the same way something like Royal Road teaches you tricks to reinforce the sleights) would give me a more positive impression.
At the end of the day, my verdict is positive, but I'd highly recommend picking up something like Card College Light and/or Scarne On Card Tricks first. Those with a deep aversion to reading (for shame!) or wanting further discussion might also look into some of Aaron Fisher's recent DVDs to hear a great card man tell how and why he re-worked many of his amazing effects to remove as much difficult sleight-of-hand as possible.
how can you say no to a card trick? well this gives you more then one. Report this review

If you are new to cards or have some card experience and are looking for some great card tricks to perform "now" that make you look like you know what you are doing while you practice the more challenging sleight of hand tricks in your spare time SWCT is what you are looking for.
The tricks presented by Jay are strong, easy and fun to perform. I was doing them the first day I watched the dvd and trust me if I can do it anybody can.
Great magic on the fly Report this review

All these effects require just an ordinary deck of cards/
Gemini Twins double prediction with no setup, stacks, moves, sleight, angles to consider.
Out of this world the spectators choose deal cards guessing which card are red and black and then they realize they got all of them right.
All in all if you need card magic w/out sleight of hand.

The tricks from this video are good beginner tricks; deinately worth knowing. the bonus material is a good addition. My snark is that the quality of the video poor and i sort of wish they didn't do so much of the live street prefomance, perhapse instead of that more tricks would have made the value greater.

I'm already a fan of Jay Noblezada's teaching style and personality. This may be the weakest of his DVDs I own. But to be fair, I think that may have something to do with the material. Self-working tricks feel a bit easier to reverse-engineer, on the part of the spectator, so it takes a special one for me to consider learning.
There is one trick on this DVD I like a lot: "Gemini Twins." It's quick, easy to do, and not quite as 'self-working' as some of the tricks (you still have to do important hands-on things, just no 'moves'). They say if you get one good trick out of a collection, it was worth the price. For me, this is that one trick.
He also goes over "Out of this World," but he teaches a version that requires advance prep, whereas I prefer the impromptu version I learned from Dan Harlan's 2nd Penguin Lecture. It is still a mind-blower, and worth learning.
None of the other tricks on this DVD stand out as much as those two. It's worth buying from the Cool Box, when available. It's probably worth including in a 'Choose 5' deal, too.
Great Restaurant Magic Report this review

The DVD is a little overpriced, but since i got it in the coolbox it was totally worth it for me.
There are two tricks that i immediately incorporated into my restaurant magic routines. Gemini Twins, and Out of this World.
Gemini Twins is a totally amazing trick. You have the spectators shuffle the deck. cut the deck. You could have six different people shuffle the deck if you want. then you pull out TWO different predictions for TWO different spectators. And this is where it gets weird. You give the deck to a third spectator, and have them deal out the cards until they feel good. then you mark the card with the prediction. and do the same for the second card. then when you go through the deck they see that where they stopped, the twin card is right next to it. Its an incredible trick. and one that i did 9 times in a row to the same crowd at the mall once. no one caught on. and its totally impromtu. Great trick
The other trick, Out Of This World is a super cool trick as well. You give the spectator the cards and have them deal red cards in your right hand, black cards in your left hand. The catch, they cant look at the cards. But when you flip over both piles, they in fact have dealed all the red cards in a pile and all the black cards in a pile. This method is sooo much better than the method that i first learned. The Spectators the one that is doing all the card handling, so it makes it that much more magical. Magic that happens in the spectators hand is so much better than magic that happens in your hands.
Everything else was redundant for me, but its always good to go through and look at old material again. Jay does a fantastic job at teaching the methods, variations, additions. You'll see real performances of him in vegas. Including one where he drops the cards while doing "out of this world" and you getta see how he fixes it. As well as how he handles nosey spectators that ask questions that you don't want asked, but watching Jay, you see how he deflects them and keeps the trick from being found out. Don't underrate simple tricks, they can get super powerful effects. I definetly have gotten some of my best reactions from "Out Of This World" and "Gemini Twins" if you have some extra cash laying around definetly pick this dvd up. You won't be disappointed.

I give this a high/strong four star rating. Jay... As usual does a great job teaching the tricks. If u are not particularly adept at sleight of hand, this is your moment to shine. I recommend this for beginner to intermediate magicians, hobbyists and even professional magicians. Yes professional magicians as well. Tricks such as these really give you a chance to completely focus on your PRESENTATION. All of these are very simple, easy to do, fun tricks. Also just loads of fun with friends and family because if you are just wanting to enjoy yourself and relax and wow them, the execution on most of these is EXTREMELY easy. A few of them, with the right PRESENTATION, are actually rather strong. If you want some fun with decks of cards here it is. If you do not know most of these tricks then one way to look at it is you are paying LESS than five bucks per trick. Jay is no slouch. This review is here for a reason. Trust it. Achilles

Some of these you probably already know... but it's a good reminder that you don't always need tricky sleights or gimmicks to produce effective magic. In fact, sometimes self-working tricks are even more powerful because there is no move, and the audience can be holding the deck in their hands when the magic happens.
