"Morgan's Razor's Edge is a brilliant effect combining mystery, suspense and danger all in the palm of your hand." -Andrew Mayne

"LOVE THIS! It has immediately gone into my show!" -Dan Sperry

"Being a working Pro for 35 years, I know good solid Original Magic when I see it. I was not about to wait for the wishy washy to fund this, so I went to Morgan and put a gun to his head for a pre release. Drop the coin on this people." -Paul Kozak

Effect

5 white shoelaces are displayed, all held together, side-by-side, in one closed fist with the ends of the laces completely visible. They're all identical in color and length.

The performer then explains the premise; a "Russian roulette" type effect... 4 of the 5 shoestrings will be grabbed - and PULLED - from the performer's hand, one at a time, until only one string remains in the hand.

He says that he's "pretty sure" he knows which string will be left behind, and so has made a prediction... He has tied ONE item to ONE of the strings... This item is hidden in his closed fist.

After a couple of FREELY SELECTED shoelaces have been stripped from the performer's hand, the performer tells the audience what the hidden "mystery" item is; a RAZOR BLADE.

"So you understand," explains the performer, "that all of these strings will slide freely from my tightly closed fist...except for one."

Tension builds as, one by one, strings are randomly pulled out by different spectators. Them with only two remaining the spectator is asked to grab one. Suddenly the performer wildly pulls his fist back, freeing the empty string. Now only one string remains in his hand.

With no funny moves, he opens his fist, revealing A VERY REAL RAZOR BLADE.

  • No stooges
  • No forcing
  • FREE string selection
  • No difficult sleights
  • SAFE to perform but creates the illusion of extreme danger
  • Nothing to hide
  • No Palming
  • Ends clean

Can be easily, quickly and inexpensively assembled at home. No "backstage" set up required at all.

Plays on stage or close-up, and can be completely surrounded.

Audience tested and proven.

Good but not complete Report this review

This is a very good effect and has great reactions BUT, the routine that is shown in the trailer is not taught fully on the DVD. Yes he teaches you the secret and the handling, but the complete routine is not taught. It can be performed as he shows on the trailer but you will have to work some of it out yourself, which usually isn't a problem but as you are dealing with a real razor blade there is a risk you may hurt yourself trying to work it out on your own.

The routine itself is a very good one! I stunned, horrified and weirded out some unsuspecting nice people with it.

It's only very slightly tricky to perform; you are working with a truly sharp blade after all!
Yes, you have to make up your own gimmick, but that's not difficult, really.

I think the only minor negative point is the DVD itself.
I admit to not being familiar with Morgan Strebler - 'The Man With The Peter Lorre Eyes.' The DVD could have used a slightly better, (more explanatory), script and Morgan's verbal fry and his repetitive 'OK?' after waaaaaay too many sentences grew annoying rather quickly.
Thank goodness for the close-up shots added post production, or there would have been important questions unanswered.
Next time, with a script writer, camera man and editor, everything should work out perfectly.

It's a disturbing effect well worth doing if you like really freaking out your onlookers - they'll be telling others about your performance for a long time! Do get it if this sounds like worthwhile fun.

Very Strong Report this review

This a perfect close up Roulet type of effect. I think the DVD does a good job teaching the handling, which by the way is very clever. If you follow the instructions the chances of getting cut are slim. The one thing that I want to point out - the presentation in the description is probably the worst way to present this - it turns the effect into a puzzle and will play flat. The correct way to present this is in the second trailer- you can see the emotional roller coaster the spectator goes through with each selection. This is a serious effect and needs to be played that way to get maximum impact - if you slip this in between card tricks and sponge balls you are doing it disservice. At the end of the DVD there are several performances - one of which is as written above and you can see it falls flat with the audiance it is played as a joke and loses it's impact. But that just me.
Was it worth the price absolutely.

This effect is NOT for the kiddie b'day show...but for any adult show - BAM you have about 6 min. or better of a act that builds to a " in the spotlight moment " end it with Ran Pink's CUT and you could be the talk of the watercooler in a good way

the DVD - not bad, teaches everything you need to know and more
where to purchase material and tools
UNDERSTAND THIS IS A DANGEROUS EFFECT it deals with shoe laces
and a very real RAZOR BLADE - PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO ALL THE WARNINGS STATEMENTS THAT MORGAN makes -added bonus performances make this a ideal purchase

Fantastic, but... Report this review

Great idea, fantastic - effect and practicability: 5 stars! But using black art in the explanation/demonstration how to prepare the effect doesn´t make sense. Why he uses a BLACK shoelace on a BLACK tablecloth, having a BLACK background and a basically BLACK t-shirt is a miracle to me. Zero stars for that point.I could reconstruct the explanation, but I didn´t see it.
The DVD is professionally produced, and if he had made it CLEARLY VISIBLE as it should be in an instruction, this DVD would get 5 stars for sure from me.

good effect, with some flaws Report this review

The setup is slightly angly, and the handling showed in the trailers isn't shown in the DVD, but wouldn't be difficult to figure out. I was under the impression that the trick used a double edge blade, but it uses a single edged. Dvd is about 38 minutes long. Also, it says 'no stooges' but the only performance that shows a spectator tying the knot, it's the same guy he taught the trick to. In addition, the guy being taught is who's work you get to see, not the guy actually teaching the trick.
