Don't be fooled by the cheezy 80's style cover Report this review

Don't be fooled by the cheezy 80's style cover this is a very good dvd.
Likes : The tricks definately pack small and hit big, theres not a weak one in the bunch. Its definatly as good as what I anticipated aswell as fairly priced.
Dislikes: Cassidy humor is borderline vulgar and somewhat rude. A good mentalist doesn't need sexual inuendows to get over with his audience. His sense of humor won't fit most performers.
Footage is poor quality, however one must understand this was transferred from VHS.
Explanations could have been a little more thourogh. You will definatley have to watch the explanations more than once. He completley lost me on the "Card Memory" explanation.
Overall, I would definatly co-sign for this dvd. If you can't add atleast one of these in your arsinal, theres something wrong with you.

Mental Miracles, well miracles is a pretty apt word since they seemed to be biblical effects.
Sorry Bob I have enjoyed other stuff I have seen you do but some of the effects on this disc are a bit old fashioned for me I'm afraid, or maybe I've been spoiled with too much Kenton and Docc mentalism stuff lately.

For a magician who wants to phase into Mentalism. This is the one! Bob Cassidy is an excellent teacher and a great performer.
This is not a DVD for someone who is an absolute clueless beginner (Although he/she could learn something) nor for a person who is already highly advanced as a Mentalist, but for someone who's ready for the next step. This is for who this DVD is for. As a learning tool, I recommend it highly.
A Great introduction to mentalism Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on January 28th, 2004
I have to disagree with both previous reviews.
I got the DVD knowing next to nothing about mentalism and found both the show and the workshop that followed informative and easy to understand and do.
Cassidy's material, for what it's worth, is a great starting off point. He provides a good direction on what "True" mentalism is, no obvious props, no magic shop gimmicks; only true mentalism.
Consider Bob to be the beginning and not the end insofar as mentalism is concerned.
His web page contains a recommended reading library of books that he's used over the years in developing his act.
Personally I consider the DVD to be a fanstatic introduction to the craft and use it as reference for my own act. In fact I will be modifiying two of his effects in an upcoming audition at the Coventry Magic Circle.
All in all this is well worth the money and should spur you on towards other mental effects, that he's done as well as others.
A Decent DVD Report this review

I have watched this DVD two times now, and it's okay. The mentalism effects shown and taught are mystifying and interesting. Cassidy's explanations are very thorough and clear. I do find his stage presence and persona to be somewhat "crude" or "crusty" (maybe it's his somewhat disheveled appearance and raspy voice). I guess I'm comparing his presentational style to that of Max Maven who comes across much more "mysterious" and "smooth". Every mentalist has their own style, however, and Cassidy's is okay. Recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining and enlightening DVD. Although Bob's presentational style is a little abrasive, the effects are nothing less than amazing. This informative DVD was well worth the money. THIS IS MAGIC!

Imagine being able to name someone at your grandma's 8th birthday party. You can. Every trick is quality and nothing is cheesy. The name and place routine is sweet. Buy this dvd and you can't go wrong. (The dvd is a little bit old though) I love it!
Master of the Principles Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 5th, 2004
This is one that you don't want to judge by its cover. I thought the cover of the DVD looked cheesey, and I almost didn't buy it. However, I'm glad that I did. I've been doing magic for about 15 years or so, and I already understood the basic principles of some mentalism; two of the big ones, being the "one ahead principle" and the "multiple outs" principle. These are principles that if not properly understood, will look lame when performing. Bob has, however, mastered these principles and incorporates them into his mentalism in such a way that it looks like real mind-reading. Ignore the goofy cover and buy it!

My first mentalism DVD and what a great one.
One can tell from the first few minutes that Mr. Cassidy knows what he is doing. Some of the effects require some lengthy set up, but some take no longer than a few minutes.
I found myself fooled by almost all the effects (but then again i have not studied mentalism, perhaps some of the methods are standard). They impressed me a great deal.
If you want to learn how to flow mentalism together with some great presentation ideas and wonderful methods, check out Bob Cassidy.
