"Xavier’s show is one of the best expressions of theatrical magic I have ever had to experience." - Jeff McBride

"I am in love with Xavier’s magic." - Asi Wind

"A genius. Xavier is just pure gold.  100/100 visual, astounding, creative and funny magic. You will love him! A young Master already at the very top!  But I love him more than that!"  -  Gaëtan Bloom

What will he teach?

Tape to tie  A piece of white, large tape is stuck to look like a tie on a shirt. It turns at sight into a real tie.

Bubble to ball - Ball to bubble  A bubble turns magically into a crystal ball and then to a bubble again.

Ball manipulations  Demonstration and techniques with crystal balls

Blowing up a balloon by the ear  A classic clown effect becomes magic with a simple device you can build.

Improve levitations with mime technique  Dancing cane

Juggling with casino chips  A variation on Pierre Brahma’s coins flourishes.

Also, Xavier will talk about:

The importance of directing magic,
How to create a routine that makes sense and not just a demonstration of tricks,
How to create your own character on stage, and
How to choose a text or a music for an act.

Who is he?

Brought up in south-western France, Xavier Mortimer packed up his suitcase to travel the world while creating shows that blend magic, circus acts, music and comedy.

He studied at the Music and Dance Conservatory of La Rochelle, as well as the Desmond Jones Acting School in London and the Jacques Lecoq Acting School in Paris.  At the age of 15, he created his first show, a combination of magic, mime and comedy. Thereafter, he won several prizes for Magic including 1st place at the Albano International Congress in Italy and Gold Star at the L’Eau d’Olle magic festival in France.

A truly complete performer, he is the recipient of several more international prizes for Magic regarding his shows. He has achieved public recognition with his show L’Ombre Orchestre (The Shadow Orchestra) created in Avignon (France) in 2006, and subsequently performed in Paris and worldwide more than 1000 times.

Xavier Mortimer is both the creator of and performer in visual shows that he presents internationally. What’s more, he not only composes the music for his own shows, but for other shows, as well. In 2012, he created the character Sneaky for the newest Cirque du Soleil’s show, ONE, which is currently being performed in Las Vegas.

Between 2013 and 2015, while performing in Vegas, Xavier has been a guest on mainstream TV shows all around the world and he is about to release his new magic show in 2016 in LAS VEGAS.

He was also invited to perform for FISM Italy 2015.

Very interesting, wonderful performer, very inspiring but I was hoping for more on performance and routining. I would love for Penguin to have a stage director lecture and not a magician.

Come to that I would love a Mime lecture too.

So no reflection on Xavier who is brilliant, but not as useful personally as I hoped.

That's the second time I watch Xavier's lecture, and everytime he got better. Don't get it thinking in learn new tricks, it goes far beyond... You will learn about put thngs together to build an act, how to renew classic effects (his version of dancing cane is flawless) and much more.

I really recommend it.

Wonderful, Not Practical Report this review

As expected, Xavier performances, and the behind the scenes look he gave to them were excellent. His advice on perfecting performances, was also very good. None of his actual material, however, is practical for the average worker.

This is all about original creations and tips added to classics. If you want to spark up your creativity, enhance your performance and bring originality and meaning to your stage routine: then this is a must-see.
PS Best dancing cane and glass ball levitation ever. The self inflating balloon gimmick is awesome.

Xavier does some very creative things, but most are not on or even or barely referenced in this live lecture. His balloon from ear was cool, but difficult to set up so probably not practical for. He had a long sit-down discussion with Dan Harlan at the end, that felt to me like it was just filling out Penguin's promised 2 hours. From someone this creative and imaginative I was expecting more. I also had a few technical glitches in the beginning, where the video was blank out momentarily, but you can rewatch it in your Penguin account.

One of the best LIVE shows ever. Xavier held nothing back and shared great info on velcro, levitation, manipulation, droppers, topits, costuming, unique balloon magic, a brilliant billiard ball routine. Very creative and inspiring. Dan did fine followup and got the details.

He provides amazing thinking with the dancing cane which has made me purchase one to practice with and establish my own creativity and thinking behind this amazing illusion. He talks about incorporating music into your magic along with what he has done as far as taking dance classes to better his performance. He is the type of person you can't help but want to watch and listen to. Get this lecture you will not be disappointed

I have atteneded many lectures in my lifetime. This is by far my favorite. Xavier shows us some amazing gems, and tells us the importance behind each movement. He explains building a character and his creative process as well. This is a bank of knowledge. Do not miss this lecture! I would have gladly paid more for this!

Honest review Report this review

So this video contains 4 tricks and I gave 5 starts but only because of the 2nd and the last trick. Sadly the first one (tie) is impossible to use because it leaves you in this weird situation where you have a whole gimmick on you and if you dont have a "hiding" place in the stage you either wear it for the rest of the show or take it off in the middle of the show. The balloon trick have the same problem...good idea but huge gimmick, uncomfortable and literally hold you back. Also the video is 2 hours but you need only the first 1 because after that is just extra talking about how to and what. Not needed.
Talking about the good things tho - the ball routine is amazing. Little juggling needed and some destroyable cloth but that's secondary. Than the last trick...one if not the best dancing cane I saw in the last couple of years. If only for this routine is still worth it (but of course the ball routine is good too)

I really liked and enjoyed the magic. I just was amazed by the skill of Xavier. I really like what he taught and was just wanting to soak up all the knowledge. I really think that I am going to take theater classes after this lecture. This lecture was a joy to watch and see the wonderful magic. I recommend it.
