Gerry "sometimes funny" Griffin Report this review

This is a very good DVD Set for beginners and intermediates. Gerry Griffin is a little boring from time to time, but that´s ok. :-)
There are some very nice Tricks (Ambitious Card Routine, Chicaco Opener, Card Warp ...) and a good mix of cuts, slights and false shuffles.
All in all a must-have for all, who want lots of strong card tricks for an unbeatable price.
go for it ...
good moves, bad presentation Report this review

The DVD's are professionally made, the effects and techniques in here are taught very well with the exception of maybe the faro shuffle. I was expecting the "expert extreme" DVD to be near impossible stuff, but in fact I was able to (and did) perform two of the effects the next day for an audience. I was kind of hoping for more difficulty. Good stuff, but Gerry needs to read Jay Sankey's book on presentation. If you buy these, use the effects but for the love of God write your own scripts!
Worth getting, but be ready!!! Report this review

Good instuctional DVD's. Well presented and explained. Will keep anyone interested in card magic occupied for months, but the music in between effects is soooo annoying, much louder than the main instructional vids (keep remote handy!!!) and the patter.....well......mmm. But, still an excellent purchase.
Volume 7 Report this review

I ordered Volume 7 for the cuts and sleights and I was very happy with what I found. Gerry is a very thorough teacher. He isn't the most exciting guy on earth, but you aren't buying it for entertainment you're buying it to learn proper technique and in that aspect Gerry is excellent. If you buy Card College volume 2 you get most of it taught visually on his volume so it makes a good combination or gift for a beginner.
I do admit though, the music between sections is very annoying.

I have been performing parlor magic for years. I have always stayed away from close up for the most part. More and more I want to be able to do a trick at a moments notice, rather than hauling around a load of equipment. Gerry teaches the basics of card magic in a way that a beginner can understand. Everybody must devolop thier own style, and once you understand these routines you will think of your own presentations. Gerry has his style the rest of us need to develop our own. Thanks Gerry for your instruction! P.S. I've also watched you Lucky 7's video; OUTSTANDING!

The videos by Gerry are great for close up and parlor type acts. Most of the tricks are pretty impromptu but not great a for a street type enviroment. He teaches a bunnnchh of material in the 7 vids and most of it is very well taught. However I would only recommend this to beginners who are trying to make that transition to the next level or veteran type magicians who want to brush up on technique. The expert extreme and advanced tricks really aren't all to amazing, they're not bad, but won't blow you off your seat. The music and patter aren't too fine either, but the abundent material on the DVDs are well worth it.
Great for beginners Report this review

If you are new to magic and want to learn some great close-up card tricks that don't require gimmicks then this is the DVD set for you. I am still new to magic and I really got a lot out of this set. However unless you are in your 50's and have a monotone voice, you definitely need to write your own material. Gerry defiantly isn't the most exciting guy in the world and the music gets annoying real fast, but just keep in mind that you bought these DVD's to learn magic not for the music or to learn how to work an audience. I thought about this for a long time before finally getting it simply because it is a lot of money but it was definitely worth every penny. You will be doing some really good tricks within minutes.
Its pretty darn good Report this review

I liked most of it but there are too many tricks that you won't perform. But otherwise it's great, the tricks are well explained and well thought out.

I think this collection is perfect for the intermediate level magician. You get to review some basics, and learn a ton of new tricks and sleights. The angle of the camera when the tricks are taught couldn't be better, and gerry goes over every step slowly and precisely explains how to handle each move. I recommend you watch and master the Sleights and Cuts DVD before most of the rest simply because you already have all the techniques in your magical arsenal so you don't have to learn them as you're trying to learn a trick. The shuffles and controls you learn will be priceless, you'll be able to work them into almost any other trick. Finally, and most importantly, the reactions you get from a lot of these tricks are priceless. Some of these are real reputation makers if done right. People will NOT forget a trick if you casually change the color of the entire deck or pop their chosen card through your hand and into theirs. In my opinion, it was well worth the buy.
