The DVDs in itself are pretty decent, that is if you're relatively new to magic. Be warned that the most advanced move on this set of DVDs is a Turnover Pass, and that most of the tricks here involve set-ups. No impromptu magic to be found. Gerry seems to really like the Erdnase Change, for he uses it in almost all his tricks. Not to mention gimmicked cards.5 of 5 magicians found this helpful.
Good for beginners, but not for intermediate or advanced magicians.

It almost hurt to watch these. The Magic is almost useless in most circumstances, though there are a few good ideas. But because of all the crud, the good ideas are very difficult to find. Gerry has a horrible presentation and does not do many of the sleights he uses that well. Many of the effects use duplicates and the majority do not end clean by far. There are plenty of items on Penguin which are better to spend money on. Do not buy this.3 of 3 magicians found this helpful.

This dvd is only for begginers really. The effects are not impromptu and often require duplicate sevens. If you are a begginer maybe otherwise don't get it.3 of 3 magicians found this helpful.
I would strongly recomend born to perform by Oz Pearlman for begginers.

I just picked this set up today at my local shop. I was a LITTLE dissappointed.2 of 3 magicians found this helpful.
Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome tricks on these DVDs, but I do have a few problems with them.
first off, practicality. there are a few tricks on here that take little to no set-up, and that's great, but most of the tricks require advance set up, extra cards, gaffs, and other such nonsense. you'd pretty much have to open with these tricks, cuz you won't be able to do a lot of them on the spot.
second, CLEAN UP! Oh my lord! almost every single trick on here requires MAJOR clean up that can't be done without exposing the trick. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't even EXPLAIN how to go about cleaning it up.
last, the dvds themselves. now Gerry can get pretty dull going through the explanations, but he does explain everything fairly well. Someone before me also said the music is pretty bad. I agree.
In my honest opinion, your money would be better spent on the Simon Lovell Madness Behind the Methods DVD set.

Well - not bad1 of 1 magicians found this helpful.
some tricks are too obvious even for inexperienced spectators - some are really good.
Gerry is a bit annoying when you watch all 3 DVDs. He keeps repeating the same - kind of - lame patter à la "And these are mmmyyyy luuucky sevens..." - or "Friends ask me - 'Gerry what is your luckiest seven out of your lucky sevens?' "
Many sleights are not explained well enough - if you are a beginner get Oz Pearlmans "Born to perform - card magic" instead.

If you're an advanced card magician then you probably already know and use most of the sleights and similar routines on these dvds. I already use most of the sleights in these in my routines, but I did pick up a move or two.1 of 1 magicians found this helpful.
This review got a 3 b/c of the weird and strange music. It felt like metal, gangsta rap tunes, techno beats, rave, and classical all mixed into each other. Plus, I felt it could've been more exciting. The tricks are decent though.

I was a bit sceptical at first when I obtained this set of DVD's. I did however become pleasently surprised with the material and found that each of the DVD's in the set obtained some very nice card tricks. I did find that there was a lack of engagment with the viewer by Gerry but this is a learning DVD series and once you get past that this is a good material. The other good news is that you do not have to use sevens in any one particular trick and you can mix and match to your own performance. Overall these are a good set of instructional DVD's. There are much worse out there we all have some.

These tricks while nothing special for an advanced magician, have the potential to be some real killers for beginner magicians. The teaching is rather boring(I'm sorry Gerry), but the tricks aren't too bad for beginners. So if your a beginner and have some money to spend you might want to consider this.

Great routines, but too many gimmicks required in alot of the good ones. Definitely worth it as I will use this stuff for the rest of my life, but Born 2 perform is probably the most quality DVD still out there!

I really enjoyed the magic in these DVDs. The routines are very practical, his finesse with the cards is outstanding, and the explanations are excellent and thorough. Although some of the routines may take some work for the average performer like myself, the slights are so well explained that learning them is not that difficult.1 of 3 magicians found this helpful.
I recommend these DVDs.
