I heard great reviews of this tape, and don't know why people would say the stuff they did.... maybe i'm not advanced enough, but i think that the first video at least sucks. Overall there is about 20 minutes of teaching... ...there is about 15 minutes of him talking about what he likes in magic... ...20 minutes of the cameras just going back over the tricks and showing them at different angles but not saying anything, and about ten minutes of him showing the tricks at a favorable angle to a few fake audience members... ...the teaching goes like this..... "I hold the cards like this (then the camera zooms on his fingers for about a second), and then I do this", and then he does the move. And then he says the same thing all over again. This is about the extent of the movie. Everything in this video involves palming cards, which he conveniently does not teach... ...so overall, if I could return it, I would. I thought this was crap. I could have just downloaded a movie of someone doing the moves in a mirror and picked up the same amount of knowledge.

These DVD's are packed full of awesome sleights, manipulations, and productions. But they are mainly centered around back palming and snatching cards from the air or from a hankercheif etc... So if your not really into those type of productions, you will probably want to get other DVD's. But if you want to learn to put on a show of professinal and mind blowing productions, this would be one of the best tools around.
Card Manipulation at its best Report this review

Jeff has always provided great instruction and this one is no different. I hate card manipulation, but I have a feeling that this will change now with the instruction that I have received from these DVD's. I will not be a great manipulator, but having all the tools that Jeff has provided does allow me to be more of a magician with cards than simply a sleight of hand artist. It is different to make the card appear out of thin air than to just be on the table somewhere. I highly recommend this series to anyone that would like to own a great reference tool on card manipulation to study.

Manipulation routine shows the artistic side of every magician. This DVD will give you all the tools you need to construct your card manipulation routine. All you need to create a powerful routine is right in this series of intructional videos. All you need to provide is the time to practice, and a creative mind to put the pieces together and you will have an act that will make people say "NOW THAT'S A MAGICIAN!!!"

I have no idea about the guy with the bad review but these 3 DVDs are AWESOME and do NOT suck. If you want to be able to manipulate cards by making them appear, vanish, and reappear, and learn some excellent flourishes (Rolo Deck, Waterfall Shuffle, One-Handed Shuffle, Charlier Cut--or one-handed cut, LePaul Spread, etc.) then get this DVD NOW!! Don't even think about it. Save up your money and get it! He does go over the teachings real well and the "Talking" that he does are tips and ideas. It has this awesome Super Practice mode that teaches you every single trick and flourish in slow-mo in a very up-close and great angle-to-see teaching. This is very professional magic. Almost all these tricks were the hardest tricks I've ever learned how to do. Some tricks require little practice while others require a very extensive amount of practice, but that's the beauty... if you can do it (with all the practice) you know someone else (without practice) CAN'T do it.

Jeff McBride's the art of card manipulation DVDs are some of the best DVDs that I own. He teaches things very clearly for the most part, meaning that everyone's hand is differnt so what may work for one person wouldn't work as well for another. So, you may have to slightly modify how the card is plamed in your hand when you do the manipulation. He also dosen't teach you the basics in palm a card, but you can figure it out with out to much of a problem just by looking at his hand. Jeff will show you a sample routine however, he shows you the manipulations and then you have to come up with your own routine. I use these manipulations almost every time I perform a trick. whether it is doing a lepaul spread, a thumb fan, one handed fan, circular fan for a person to select a card. again I highly recommend theses DVDs. They will take practice to master, but it is some of the funnest magic that I know.

It can't get any better then this. Jeff McBride is without doubt one of the best cardmanipulators in the world. On this DVD he share some great card productions and flourishes. You will also learn a few full card manipulation-routines and tips on how to make your own. His teaching methods are just great, everything is explained VERY well.
The guy with the bad review must be commenting the wrong DVD. These three DVDs are the best I own (and I have a few). What he must not have realized is that these moves taught on the DVD won't take you ten minutes to master. No, it will take you months of practice (if you're new to magic) to get these moves down. I sat down one day and spent ten houres on just one production. So, if you're looking for magic that will take you ten minutes to learn, this is not for you. But, if you're looking for a challenge and being able to perform the most beautiful magic there is, this one is for you.

I just want to say that Penguin has lived by their name. If you want to advance your sleight of hand magic, just go for this dvd. I was completely satisfied and I am sure everyone who purchases it will be also. Great stuff.

I'll tell ya, I've seen alot of different tutorial's and instructional videos on how to do this or that, but this one by FAR is the best I've ever encountered. Jeff explains everything and shows you step by step how he does what he does. Each DVD is broken down into smaller segments (I guess you could call them mini-routines) and at the end of each one, all the moves are repeated twice, with a closeup of his hands and in slow motion. The only way you would not like these DVD's is if you had no desire to practice. Alot of these moves defiantely require practice, but that's what magic is all about. If there was one DVD set I could recommend, it would be this one.
