you are looking for classic stuff that you don't know how to do yet. The dvd is VERY basic but the effects ARE TESTED AND THEY WORK. Good stuff.
Simon is great, I just don't like the style of editing, but that doen't ruin the learning process.

This is an excellent buy as all of the material is very good. Full of useful tips and tricks, I have learned quite a lot of the tricks on the DVD and incorporated them into my act. The tricks and sleights taught here will definitely take you from beginner card tricks to professional level magic.
My personal favorites from this DVD are Red Hot Mama, Switch Craft, What Aces?, Perplexing, and Ambitious Card. All are very good, though. Many very important and useful card sleights essential for good card magic are featured.
Simon is entertaining and likeable and the general quality of the DVD is very good. The only thing stopping me from giving it a full 5 stars is that the pace of the video is sometimes too fast. This is the nature of learning from a video, however, and fortunately with a DVD you can pause and replay anything easily. Over all, I'm very happy with this purchase and thanks to it, I have added several excellent tricks to my card routines.

this dvd is amazing. although i bought this a while ago, this dvd became one of my foundations to card magic. this is really unique card magic. there is one card trick on this dvd that i have gottin great reactions from and is in my top 10 card tricks. the reason i gave it four stars, is because i personaly wouldnt use some of his card tricks just because there not my style, but thats just me. i promise that you will perform a couple of these. This DVD is fantastic.I think all of the effects are fool proof.Every single one of them i use because it isn't bogged down with a load of crap.Just very strong tricks that you also don't need to waste cards every time you preform. The only reason it looses a star with me is although Simon is very funny,he is very quick with his explanations. He also never shares any of the thinking behind a trick just the explanation and then that's it.As i say outstanding DVD with a great preformer but the explanations could be much better!!

This is an excellent collection of tricks that are impressive to watch, easy to do, and alot of fun all around. I would say this is best suited to intermediate performers looking to add new tricks to their acts, or possibly beginners who know at least basic sleights. Advanced card handlers looking for fancy new flourishes won't find them here, and newcomers to card magic will be frustrated by Simon's abridged instruction on the few required sleights. Although he explains all sleights necessary to perform the routines, he is brief, and I find his explanations unsatisfactory. For instance, if I didn't already know how to execute the double lift, I don't think I could have learned from Simon's explanation. Also in one of the phases of his ambitious card routine, Simon boasts of having spent six years perfecting his pass, but in the explanation of that phase, he doesn't teach a pass. Either he was bluffing, he forgot (He almost forgot to explain part of another trick, until a member of the crew reminded him) or he assumed that viewers would be well versed in the pass or look to other sources. It's just as well that he doesn't bother, since any pass is a complicated move to teach. But, you get my point. If you find yourself short that one spectacular card trick and don't mind a little setup and a LOT of patter, this is an excellent source.

This is not a bad DVD. But unfortunately, as an instructional tool I find it somewhat lacking. I too found that the pace was a bit hurried. It's almost like they were rushing to finish this DVD and get it out the door. Also, some of the viewing angles aren't the best. If you're brand new to magic, then you may be overwhelmed by this material. All that being said, there are still some very nice effects in here, and I'm sure that the routines can enhance the repertoire of intermediate and advanced practitioners.

If you are into cards and you want some excellent routines for your repitoire then you need to buy this DVD and Simon's other DVD (Madness behind the methods: http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=857).
I cannot recommend more highly the content of these two DVD sets in terms of the value for money in terms of the quality of the effects and the amount of material you get.
Simon does an excellent job passing on the working for the routines and tips and handling. His material is good worker stuff with very little fluff it allows great scope to add your own flair if you so desire but it is all very accessible from the get go for a competent card worker.
For the beginner who wants to get right into this stuff I would also recommend getting Oz Pealmans "Born to Perform Card Magic" (http://www.penguinmagic.com/europe/product.php?ID=618) which is has some fantastic tutorials for learning some of the rudiments of card magic. With these three DVD's and a few of the classic card books you will be able to put together some great card magic routines! Go Penguin! and Go Simon Lovell!
Great stuff, bad quality Report this review

This DVD is great if you want to learn some new dynamite card tricks. However, like all magic makers DVDs, it has really bad quality. And the music is really bad. And most of the tricks have set-ups. And Simon doesn't even pause for a second so you can see the setup. But, overall, the material is really good. If you're interested, buy it.
