Psychological Subtleties 1 (PS1) by Banachek - Book
Price: $45.00
In stock: usually ships within 24 hours!

Psychological Subtleties by Banachek Banachek, first came to national prominence as one of two teen-age "psychics" validated by the Parapsychology Department at Washington University as part of Randi's "Project Alpha" experiment. Since then he has been buried alive on national television, caught bullets in his teeth (using his own technique, which he has since shared with Penn & Teller) and become one of the most sought-after performers in the college and corporate arenas. In this long-awaited new book, Banachek reveals the true secrets of his success: psychological subtleties that transform "mental magic" into "psychic entertainment." Most of the effects require no advance preparation and may be performed at a moment's notice. Those who have Banachek's earlier monographs will not hesitate to add this to their libraries.

From the introduction by Teller: "BANACHEK IS BRILLIANT at subtle deceptions. My partner Penn and I have repeatedly called upon his vast knowledge, diabolical ingenuity, and remarkable imagination, and have never been disappointed. This man has the goods, and now you do, too. But be careful. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS BOOK. In the wrong hands, these subtle, deeply devious methods could be used to convince audiences that the performer is not an artist, but a supernatural being. .."

Great mentalism book Report this review

This is a classic from Banachek, with many of the techniques used to increase chances of getting "hits" and easy "outs" for misses. If you want a book on some of the elementary psychological tricks used in mentalism, this is a great place to start.

Banachek is a genius! This book is a very informative book for mentalists. It goes into a lot of different mentalism ideas involving the use of psychology. This book changed my whole perspective on the performance of mentalism, and it has helped to shape my current performing style. If you are a professional mentalist and you do not have this book, you need to get it immediately! If you are a hobbyist magician, then you could probably let this one pass.

This book is amazing. From the first page to the last page, it is full of ideas and tools to make you a better mentalist.
If you a looking for easy to do tricks, don't buy this book, you will hate it!

If you want to become a good performer, and a great mentalist, then this book is for you. There is mostly no full lenght routines, but there is so many tools and tips in this book, so that you will get a lot of inspiration to make new routines or to add stuff to your old routines.

This book is a goldmine!

The Dtuff that Grat Mentalism Acts are Built upon Report this review

During my career as a semi professional magician, I have come across 2 excellent magic books. The first one was Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz and Psychological Subtleties #1 (PS1) being the second book. I give PS1 4 Stars. PS1 is a compilation of quick, direct and short mentalism effects that one can use to warm the audience up before the show. If we were to make an analogy to restaurant food, PS1 tricks are appetizers before the entrees. The tricks in PS1 are designed to be introduced as "friendly tests" rather than full-fledged tricks designed to make people feel tricked. To me, "not to make your audience feel tricked" a principle worth exploring. Also, since these things are designed to be presented as tests, I do not feel down or stuck anymore when I fail in forcing the 4 of Hearts in the "Princess Card Trick." PS1 is full of information and statistical data that one can use to build one's own little test. I use the nickel and dime test to read my friends' minds over the phone every time I have the chance, big deal if I do not get it right.
