My review of Dominique's previous video, "My Attic is in my Chest", was tough to write; Dominique happens to be my all around favorite magician, but that dvd just was not his best. There were some bright spots, but not all that I expected. The biggest issues I had were the effects he performed and explained that require a special deck that doesn't exist on the market, even at his own shop, Mayette.

So as I began watching "Melting Pot", I was a bit anxious since I knew that Dominique had filmed it at the same time as "My Attic..."; however, I was quickly able to relax and enjoy this second set from that filming. (Apparently, a third volume, "Exit Wounds", should be out later this year.) The material is strong, and there were even some new principles I had not been aware of before. I particularly loved the routine, "Elixiir", in which decisions made by an audience member cause 5 pairs of cards to match almost impossibly. Dominique shows the diversity of the principle used in "Elixir" in another routine, "Make A Wish".

After a rocky start with "My Attic", "Melting Pot" was hood enough that I'm anticipating the release of the third set.
