The performer lays out seven cards on the table, each one representing one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

After explaining that the Devil uses these sins in order to tempt his victims, the performer chooses a vice that would personally be tempting. Instructing the spectator to do the same, they then have a completely free choice of the remaining six sins.

Before committing, the performer tells the spectator that they can change their mind as many times as they want. Still, no matter how much one tries to trick him, The Devil ALWAYS Knows... The back of their selected card is eerily different from all the others in a Devilish manner - scary!!

Inspired by Nick Trost's classic Eight Card Brainwave and giving it a bizarre Seven Deadly Sins twist, these cards are beautifully printed on 310gsm cardstock from France, with a linen finish that is extremely durable and should last for many, many years.

The art was designed by a professional artist, and needs to be seen in person to really be appreciated. Just laying the cards down on the table immediately grabs the spectator's interest, offering unlimited storytelling opportunities for a virtually captive audience.

From fun and humorous presentations to downright terrifying ones, THE DEVIL ALWAYS KNOWS is an instant reset worker's dream that makes for an absolutely unforgettable piece of magic.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX?

(actually, it comes in a brown cardstock envelope, but we couldn't pass up using the movie quote)

  • Seven beautifully crafted, Ouija board inspired poker-size playing cards, each with the name of one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • A perfectly-sized antique brown envelope to carry your set, with a large hand-inked black seven on the front. No two are exactly alike.
  • A "Classic Edition" business card that contains link information to a private instructional video explaining handlings, patter suggestions, and additional tips.
  • Access to a private Facebook Group where THE DEVIL ALWAYS KNOWS owners can share and discuss story presentations and tips.
  • As a bonus, you'll receive three gaff cards that can be used to create/adapt effects to go along with the Seven Deadly Sins theme.

The Devil Always Knows (Seven Deadly Sins) is essentially Nick Trost's 8-Card Brainwave using a different presentation, the seven deadly sins, of course. The cards are lovely with a perfectly chosen font for the sins and a cool devil picture. Christopher's routining easily solves the sole "numerical" issue here. (And for those of you who know Trost's trick, you'll get what I mean.) The method then is exactly as Trost created it, except with the spooky premise instead of the Brainwave effect. That means there is exactly one card sleight to learn, and it's not hard at all. (C'mon mentalists. You can do it!)

This is a true classic in a wonderful new routine. Performed smoothly, it will absolutely stun and baffle audiences. In the interests of consumer disclosure, Rick Lax's Reverse Psychology is a DIY psychological version of the Trost effect. As a mentalist, I have it and use it because it doesn't look like a "store-bought" trick. It's terrific, and I like it a lot. But I have to say, Devil is a winner too for those who like the bizarre magick.

By the way, you get links to some low-tech instructional videos of Christopher that teach this pretty well. But if you know the old trick or watch the move a few times, you won't really have any problems. For this one, a small practice investment will yield a huge reward.

I see that at the time of my review, this is sold out on Penguin and awaiting a new shipment. That's great. It deserves it.

I bought it and was so fascinated with the set, it's easy to master and if you really get into this trick, I will greatly recommend Mr. Dearman "candlelight edition" of The Devil Always Knows. Chris, great job, highly recommended.

The quality of the cards is very good, and the videos cover all the handlings necessary for the routine. The teaching is a bit on the dry side, and I would have liked to hear some actual presentation ideas for the additional cards included. Overall I think it's a decent package, but it's a bit overpriced for what you get.
