This is not unlike a lot of magic where you have to know where to use it and how to use it. It's definitely not a close-up trick. Move the cane around. Before you "disappear" the wand point it toward the audience and it makes it more difficult to see the disappearing action. Make some noise to cover the sound... whatever it takes. Use your imagination. For me this will be another trick along with a few others I use just to break the ice at the begninng of my show. Great trick.
