The Effect
You show your spectators a ONE DOLLAR BILL. Fold it in half and it's still a ONE DOLLAR BILL.
Give it a wave and with NO FUNNY MOVES and WITHOUT LEAVING THEIR SIGHT it visually changes into a FIVE DOLLAR BILL. That's phase one, and your spectators already got their money's worth.
Fold it again and it's still a FIVE DOLLAR BILL.
But give it a wave... and WITH NO FUNNY MOVES (and AGAIN WITHOUT LEAVING THEIR SIGHT) the FIVE visually changes into a TEN DOLLAR BILL! That's phase two. Now they've seen the magic twice... with their own eyes. It would be safe to say they're pretty much addicted to you at this point.
Fold the bill again. It's still a TEN DOLLAR BILL.
Give it a wave and AGAIN it VISUALLY CHANGES, this time into a TWENTY DOLLAR BILL!
That's phase three. At this point your spectators have had just about all they can handle... their mouths are watering and they're only moments away from EITHER embracing you as a spiritual leader OR grabbing your TWENTY and running for it!

Here's why: GREED allows you to get a specatator to reach into his/her wallet and hand you money BEFORE you've even done any magic. Emotionally, that person has in a very real sense already given that money to you. Even though they haven't said you can keep it yet, the spectator knows that he/she may not ever see that dollar again, and he/she is OK with that... otherwish he/she would't have handed it to you.
So, to increase your tips with GREED, start the routine by borrowing a spectator's bill.
You'll have to do a simple switch. Danny just folds up the spectator's bill, puts it in his pocket and says, "Thanks". He gets the laugh and says, "Just kidding". Now he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the GREED gimmick instead.
In that one simple exercise he's increased the spectator's emotional investment in the effect AND made it much more likely the spectator will give him a tip. And when you've got a group of people around you, if one person gives you a tip it's much more likely that other people will tip you as well.

Please note: GREED works with bills of many different currencies (Danny used to do it with Monopoly Money when he was a kid).
The key is that the bills you choose to use all have to be the same dimensions.
The color of the bills is less important. You CAN ABSOLUTELY use several different colored bills. The only difference is that with multiple colors in play you'll need to adjust your finger position slightly during the third phase. |

This is a great trick. I use this almost every day, either as performed by Mr. Garcia or my own variation. It is easy to reset, and after some practice very easy to perform. If you pass the hat, you will make your investment back in no time! I do have one piece of advice, which is watch the dvd, then make your rig. American currency has changed since the dvd was produced, but the bill you need is still very commonly available, so don't sweat it.
All in all, Greed is well worth it. Add it to your cart, add it to your repertoire, and be ready to watch jaws drop!

I had been wanting this DVD for awhile, but, being in the magic business for a long time, knew that it would cost more than thirty dollars to make the gimmick. But due to specific actions (which can't be explained to save the secret), the gimmick costs less than ten dollars. I purchased the DVD in a Penguin Special which made the DVD essentially free. However, if I would have known that Danny was such a good teacher, the gimmick was so cheap, or that the actual trick is relatively easy to master, I would have immediately purchased this DVD. IT IS GREAT!!

I purchased this trick without asking, but now i am telling.
I am a Canadian living it Southern Ontario. American money is green, Canadian money is, well, blue, green, purple, red, yellow, etc. Danny is an awesome magician and I own most of what he has done, but this effect does not work well with money that is different colours, I could go as far that it won't work, but I wont. If you have a PhD in arts and crafts, as well as hours of practising you could potentially pull it off. But if you dont, Canadians and other Colour Money users will have much trouble, in fact probably have to give up on the last change completely. Sorry Danny, but it had to be done. It is still an amazing effect, just wasn't designed for everyone, it was designed by Dan, for Dan. Which makes sense...
