As an amateur and novice, I rarely do anything technically difficult, and have an arsenal full of self-working tricks I love. I also find great value in video as a learning tool as well as books. In that context, without slamming on self-working tricks or video learning, I just don't feel like they go together well. The tricks and performance section are pretty much a waste: the discussion of theory and patter is too thin to recommend over other sources, and you can get equal (or better) tricks from printed sources at the fraction of the cost. Don't get me wrong, I love Gemini Twins and perform it; but why not learn (an arguably cleaner version of) Do As I Do way cheaper from Scarne On Card Tricks?

However, the DVD really turns around in the latter half when Noblezada shows performances (with occasional problems and realistic reactions, not the carefully edited screams of delight most DVDs restrict themselves to) and dissects what went well and what didn't and how he made the best of the situation. A talk with Gary Darwin is occasionally unfocused, but you get a pile of wisdom from a real pro on making the most of your practice time and avoiding unnecessarily difficult sleights when there are suitable replacements. I enjoyed this, found value in it, and think others (especially beginners in card magic) would as well.

I love it when a product goes beyond just teaching me the secret to a trick, and tries to make me a better magician overall. I think a new cut of the footage that focused on this and presented the tricks as more of a "bonus" to reinforce intangible principles (in much the same way something like Royal Road teaches you tricks to reinforce the sleights) would give me a more positive impression.

At the end of the day, my verdict is positive, but I'd highly recommend picking up something like Card College Light and/or Scarne On Card Tricks first. Those with a deep aversion to reading (for shame!) or wanting further discussion might also look into some of Aaron Fisher's recent DVDs to hear a great card man tell how and why he re-worked many of his amazing effects to remove as much difficult sleight-of-hand as possible.

If you are new to cards or have some card experience and are looking for some great card tricks to perform "now" that make you look like you know what you are doing while you practice the more challenging sleight of hand tricks in your spare time SWCT is what you are looking for.
The tricks presented by Jay are strong, easy and fun to perform. I was doing them the first day I watched the dvd and trust me if I can do it anybody can.

Great magic on the fly Report this review

All these effects require just an ordinary deck of cards/

Gemini Twins double prediction with no setup, stacks, moves, sleight, angles to consider.

Out of this world the spectators choose deal cards guessing which card are red and black and then they realize they got all of them right.

All in all if you need card magic w/out sleight of hand.

BUY THIS!!!!

Been awhile since I've done magic, so I wanted to get started with something not too difficult. These are the Ace of Spades, pun intended. I performed the envelope prediction for kids and wife and they were freaked out.
Easy effects to learn, practice for smoothness, and probably use some of them for life. I enjoyed Darwin's interview/advice regarding simplicity, also enjoyed seeing real world performances by Jay.
Some reviews complain about video quality, and all I can say is Jay teaches well and it's still a lot better than a vhs tape or drawings in a book, and in the end you learn the effects, so what more do you want.

The tricks from this video are good beginner tricks; deinately worth knowing. the bonus material is a good addition. My snark is that the quality of the video poor and i sort of wish they didn't do so much of the live street prefomance, perhapse instead of that more tricks would have made the value greater.

Great DVD with excellent video quality and well taught tricks. My favorites are Gemini Twins, Key Card Location and Cross Cut Force although all of the tricks are good. A beginner should be able to do the tricks on this dvd with minimal practice yet look like a pro.

I'm already a fan of Jay Noblezada's teaching style and personality. This may be the weakest of his DVDs I own. But to be fair, I think that may have something to do with the material. Self-working tricks feel a bit easier to reverse-engineer, on the part of the spectator, so it takes a special one for me to consider learning.

There is one trick on this DVD I like a lot: "Gemini Twins." It's quick, easy to do, and not quite as 'self-working' as some of the tricks (you still have to do important hands-on things, just no 'moves'). They say if you get one good trick out of a collection, it was worth the price. For me, this is that one trick.

He also goes over "Out of this World," but he teaches a version that requires advance prep, whereas I prefer the impromptu version I learned from Dan Harlan's 2nd Penguin Lecture. It is still a mind-blower, and worth learning.

None of the other tricks on this DVD stand out as much as those two. It's worth buying from the Cool Box, when available. It's probably worth including in a 'Choose 5' deal, too.

4.5 Stars - I wish I had this 20 years ago Report this review

I have been doing a few card tricks for friends and family for decades. Nothing fancy and not much variety, but there is always a good time to ask someone for a deck of cards and do a trick or two. I tell you this, because if you are like me and you just want to broaden your range a bit, this is the DVD for you. I got this as a GWP from Penguin, but of all the DVD's and videos I got here, this one, I would have happily bought. There is nothing here that requires super skilled hands, but what I like is how Jay talks about presentation and gives some ideas and hints on how to dress up a trick - making it feel like you're really experienced. His street performances really helped me get a good feel for how to present magic, which is something I just can't get from reading a book. I wish I had gotten this DVD when I was in my 20's, I'd have had more and better tricks and I might have gotten a lot better at magic.
