"The explanations are exceptionally well done, the music is spectacular and the camera work is some of the best I've ever seen on a magic video." --Matthew Field, Genii Video Reviewer

Jay Sankey has put out a really good DVD here. 45 contains a lot of stuff, and a lot of stuff that you will use. Like many magic DVDs and books, there is a bunch of stuff that you probably won't use but for the amount that you will, it is well worth the price of the DVD. A lot of the stuff on the DVD can be done by beginners so it is a great purchase for all magicians. Thanks Sankey.

Hi. This is your official PenguinMagic reviewer, B_Magic.
This DVD is actually a surprise to me how much I like it! The fact is, at first glance I would think this was a silly and ineffective way to produce a DVD (being totally silent). Also, being that although I appreciate Sankey's work, I've not always been a fan of all that he's done, I would have thought this DVD to be a bad choice for me. On the contrary, I really enjoyed the DVD and learned a lot from it.
It is a little weird being taught 45 magic tricks without a single word being spoken, but Sankey does a great job with this. He shows the tricks as how they look to an audience and then shows you the exposed views, at times going over the effect several times so you can get a full understanding of it. I would say he does a better job here teaching silently than many DVDs teach with words!
I still think DVDs like David Stone's Real Secrets of Magic Set do a better job of presenting and teaching effects than 45, but Sankey doesn't do a bad job. The DVD can get downright goofy-weird at times, but that's to be expected with Sankey. All in all, I'm pleased with this purchase!

Actually very good.

The thing about Jay Sankey is that he uses a certain number of sleights but milks them for all they're worth to produce quite varied effects. So I was a bit unsure about getting this DVD because I thought the sleights would be limited, however I was pleasantly surprised to see a great variety and even some things I didn't expect (such as the classic pass).
It has great camera angles, and I really loved how he would perform them in different places every time. Now, why it only got 4 stars was that it had parts of the music with parts that I couldn't hear. For that reason, I fell asleep while watching. Also, some of the effects do need a bit more explanation. Overall this is a great DVD though. It comes with mini routines that you can combine and make into impromptu performances. Don't let the music and the few not well explained slights drive you away! Buy this now!

Essential

This DVD has nothing but solid sleight of hand magic. Learning all the material on this DVD will definitely make you a better magician.
There are 22 general card/coin sleights. In the category of card magic, there are 4 color changes, 5 forces, and 3 flourishes. Besides that there are 4 object vanishes, a pen and coin routine, a ring trick, a bill switch, and a coin flourish. Essentials like the Erdnase Color Change, the Double Lift, the French Drop, and the Pass are among the 45.
The best thing about the DVD is that it isn’t packed with filler. It’s just effect after effect. All the material is usable, and I would call more than half the effects “top notch.”
