mentalism DVD review
[Verified buyer] by fml from usa on 05/17/2009 11:57:37
love this DVD: clearly presented performance & explanations including close-up camera angles to make it all more understandable! helps to already have some background in Mentalism ... and even then Cassidy explains not to simply copy him but to work through the effects & adapt that to our own! certainly worth the consideration, if nothing else for the patter & psychological applications, by anyone into Mentalism! very nice!

Entertaining
[Verified buyer] by Anonymous from Connecticut on 03/05/2006 06:33:24
I enjoyed this DVD, despite the negatives. Those being: 1) a somewhat poor production quality of the video/audio, and 2) there are only 5 effects. On the plus side, Mr. Cassidy has some very solid routines that would play well for any audience. The techniques used here are not new, but this DVD goes to show how strong a few basic principles can be if properly presented. If you're at the beginner or intermediate stage of magic/mentalism, then this DVD will surely benefit you. If, on the other hand, 5 effects derived from relatively well established principles won't cut it for you, then you may want to reconsider. All that being said, this is good mentalism presented in an entertaining fashion.

good tricks but not the best performer...!
by Richard McCormack from kent, uk on 06/01/2005 13:37:47
I think the other reviews pretty much establish the fact that these tricks are quite decent and can be strong. I really would like to point out though how weak a performer I really feel that Cassidy is!
This is going to sound arrogant of me but i would not go to one of his shows because of his pure lack of showmanship and charm. I felt that it needed highlighting so that those of you who do buy the dvd do not feel compelled to copy his style. His 'abuse' of his volunteers, although playful, does not come across as pleasant, his pure expectancy to be applauded for something, his lack of eye contact withe volunteers and audience, his hands being in his pocket for most of the time.
I'm sorry, but it results in some really worthy tricks being wasted. I suggest that one ought to buy Derren Brown's books (Pure Effect and Absolute Magic) and then this DVD (because the tricks here are decent) and then you will see also how real showmanship can bring these tricks to true 'Mental Miracles'. I have nothing against Cassidy. In fact, I'm sure maybe in his real shows he probably plays his role better, but I wished to highlight the fact that his style and presentation should not be immitated.

Good Stuff
[Verified buyer] by Marc Turner from Sydney, Australia on 05/22/2005 09:50:44
My first mentalism DVD and what a great one.
One can tell from the first few minutes that Mr. Cassidy knows what he is doing. Some of the effects require some lengthy set up, but some take no longer than a few minutes.
I found myself fooled by almost all the effects (but then again i have not studied mentalism, perhaps some of the methods are standard). They impressed me a great deal.
If you want to learn how to flow mentalism together with some great presentation ideas and wonderful methods, check out Bob Cassidy.
