Only a few effects but the torn and restored handkerchief and the color changing silks are each worth the price of the lesson. To top it off they are both really easy and have lots of room for jokes or patter, can be done in any venue and see perfect for MCs or motivational speakers.

Dan was right, This is a short lesson, but with at least two very big winners, Phoa's Cut and Restored Silk and Sucker Silk Color Change. If you own a thumb tip and like silk magic, one of these is for you.

I bought all Tarbell's books 20 years ago... and after many failed attempts to follow his arcane and sometimes bizarre instructions and diagrams I gladly gave them away.
Tarbell came alive for me when Penguin Magic, Dan Harlan and the revolution and democratization of the arts and crafts movement coincided in the late 1990s.
I consider this Download - with the workshop staff and camera crew involved - provides clear, concise, meticulous and comprehensive demonstrations and explanations of the six effects with which it deals.
Also Mr Harlan, in all his modernization work in the Tarbell Series, re-introduces the basic arts and crafts workshop conditions on which family and community magic creation depends.

Decent short lesson on an unpopular type of magic Report this review

Phoa's Cut & Restored and Sucker Color Change are of interest to magicians who don't really like silk magic, which is probably most of us. For manipulation routines, Silk From Confetti is much improved from the book, and Serpentine Silk is always lovely.

Silk through Neck is no good, use another method.

I was totally fooled by the cut and restored silk. New principle to me. Great for impromptu work. Nice to see a different handling for the serpentine silk and an interesting presentation for the color changing silks.

great cut and restored handkerchief Report this review

The first cut and restored handkerchief is great, and fooled me. I wish a little more time would have been spent on the "move". I also would like some suggestions for where to buy cheap handkerchiefs in bulk, since a magician will go through a lot of them if they start doing this trick.

The thread tricks are good, and new to me, but require thread that matches the color of your jacket, so are probably rather limited in actually being able to be used.

The third routing with small silks marked/printed RED and WHITE is very strong. Problem is, they require messy arts and crafts with spray paint to create the 4 necessary printed silks. A source to buy the silks already printed with the words would make this routine more likely to be done.

This is one of the shorter/shortest videos, which made it easier to get through, but less value wise than some others which are a good 2 hours. Dan is a great and clear lecturer as always.

Unfortunately, like all lessons in this series, there is no table of contents, or volume control. I can't understand why this has not been addressed and fixed in 89 lessons!

Very enjoyable silk routines Report this review

This is the second Tarbell video I've watched. On this tutorial, I liked best the Serpent Silk knot untying. In general, animations of magical props are my favorites. Haunted Hank was one of the first tricks I bought, and Copperfield's dancing neckties was a family hit on TV.

Especially appreciated in the Serpent Silk knot untying was the use of thread, not a reel as you would expect from Serpent Silk inventor John Albenice. Also, anything like Slydini's knotted silks is most welcome.

All in all, the entire video held my attention. My wife came in just as the video ended, as I yelled "wonderful!". That's what magic acts should be, wonderful.
