Imaginary Ball

After the effect, can spectator explain the object as a ball?

After they catch the ball, have them throw the imaginary ball to you right away and it is easy to ditch.

No, they don't feel a physical ball touch their hand, but you can get them to feel when you drop the "ball" and physically respond to that sensation. Its super cool and works well.
