the tossed out deck by patrick redford

i saw a trick at alakazam, called "javelin" by wayne dobson...he cuts the deck into 3 parts...each person thinks of a card..he tells them what it is...the can be shuffled...can this be done with Patrick's deck....also i need to make sure it is red back..let me know..thanks..Bill Joslin
