If you make one mentalism purchase this holiday season, this should be it. It is terrific.
I was familiar with Gene Grant a/k/a Phantani, and I have digital copies of his books. I was
stunned at how consistently good his material is, yet no one ever mentions him as one of the greats.
In particular, Micro Crypto looked interesting, but way too involved, and I was too lazy to learn
it. Now that I've seen Richard Osterlind explain and perform it, I'm blown away. He makes it all
easy, and the routine itself is stunningly deceptive. Actually, all six routines are wonderful
workers. (I'm going to use all of them.) And apart from perhaps buying a f****** book and a bunch of
those Micro Crypto charms, you don't need much to pull these things off. Three simple utility moves
stand out too: an easy p*** and two ways to f**** a page from a book or magazine. Both methods are
so good, and I'd never seen them before.
If this is what we should expect in the
Osterlind-taught "Legend" series, I'm excited for more. This is not the usual stuff and is one of
Osterlind's best teaching videos. Phantini lives!
You can use the cheapest charms you can find. (No need to bust up your wife's Pandora bracelet. :)) I think Osterlind metions that they came with greeting
cards that he bought at Hobby Lobby for a few bucks. It's an excellent effect, one of Phantini's best, and Osterlind teaches it perfectly--there's a tad bit of memory work--and makes the performance look easy.
In a word, terrific
