You may be over-thinking it . You are aware of the "thing", but your audience is not . It is like a similar type of thing that has the initials "TT" , the audience should never be aware of it and with the correct handling they are never going to be looking straight at it , so if the color doesn't match exactly , it's not going to be noticed. Look for video of Henry Evans performing this. (search on YouTube for "Henry Evans linking rubber bands", you'll find it) Follow his handling of it , you won't have any problem.
