If you could have one set of magic DVDs, this would be it! This benchmark collection features just about all of magic's most enduring and classic effects and routines. It's a fabulous compendium with many of the top masters in the world of magic teaching their handlings and routines for some of magic's classics. Linking rings, sponge balls, mental bending, cups and balls, thumb tips, Zombie, color-changing knives, and many, many more topics are all gathered in this one terrific DVD reference set. Each volume covers a specific subject and features new, old, and sometimes rare footage by some of the top video producers in magic.

The folding coin was first introduced into the literature of magic by Professor Hoffmann in the late 1800s. Since that time, magicians have been coming up with diverse ways to perform the classic Coin in Bottle, the effect for which the gimmick was first invented, in addition to other novel ways in which this unusually gimmicked coin can be put to use.

In this volume, you'll learn David Roth's take on what has now become a classic of street magic as a piece of a coin is visibly bitten off and then expectorated back into place. You'll then be treated to five different approaches to the Coin in Bottle. First, Johnny Thompson performs and teaches his version, which he refers to as one of his "pet tricks." Then, one of the world's great bar magicians, Karl Norman, demonstrates his fine touches on the trick. David Roth is up next with an adaptation with a truly bizarre finish and also imparts some important information on the care and handling of folding coins. Then, Michael Ammar teaches his reputation-making versions that features a squeaky-clean way of getting into the trick and, in the stage version, a similarly clean finish. To round out the set, David Roth finishes up with two completely different ways to use the folding coin, first as a way of magically producing coins in the hand and secondly, as a method for performing the classic Coins Through Table so that the coins apparently visibly vanish into the surface of the table.

The folding coin has been around for a long time and there's a good reason for that. If you've never experienced the sheer astonishment of an audience as they watch a coin apparently pass into and out of a solid glass bottle, you're missing out on what Michael Ammar called "one of the five strongest effects you can do with a coin." And, on this DVD, you'll learn everything you need to know to put a folding coin effect right into your "A" list of material.

We recently had Michael Ammar in for a workshop & lecture & his handling of this is great as he has a "cork" in the bottle from the start! I think magicians need to realize that it's what they bring that makes any trick work!

Coin in Bottle is a classic of magic. This DVD shows a nice variety of performances and the proper way to perform this great trick. However, there are only so many ways that you can perform coin in bottle. Because of this I give this dvd a 3. It just becomes redundant. Johnny Thompsons classic handling is the best. It would have been nice to see Scotty York's handling on this DVD as Coin in Bottle is a great bar trick.

Hi! This is your official PenguinMagic reviewer, B_Magic.

Coin in Bottle is an effect I used to do, but don't really like it too much anymore. It had a couple variations you could do with it (like a coin bite as well as in the bottle routine), but in the end the cons outweighed the pros and the effect got shelved.

For me, it's too gimmicky and fragile. I've had them break on me several times and I've had to replace them. Also, it's been revealed on television, and is HUGELY revealed online, so that is something else to deal with. Finally, it's just not a KILLER effect. I mean, it can be very good, and especially for a beginning magician this could be a great tool to have, but for the cons I think there are much better effects out there.

If you want it, I'd say go for it. But I don't think this is something that will stick in most people's arsenal for too long.
