Enjoyed this event (thanks, Penguin) . . . but was disappointed in a few aspects, which I hope you can take on board for future events:

1. A couple of the lectures were duplicates of prior lectures at the former event (e.g. Chad Long, as entertaining as he is), so little or nothing new here and frankly a waste of time and poor value for money. Suggest requiring overwhelmingly new material or -- better yet -- ensuring wholly new lecturers.

2. Some of the performers (e.g. Chad, Garrett T) -- again, as good as they were -- went on too long promoting their products when they could have (more generously) shared original, substantive tips.

3. Some of the performers (e.g. Michael K, with his cups and balls) routine -- again, as talented as they are -- duplicated material too much even within the weekend. More variety in effects would have been better.

4. Please bring Greg Wilson and Greg Rostami to Dallas next time!

5. A greater variety of NEW effects would have been better; we saw nearly all the same Penguin effects there last time there was such an expo in Dallas, a couple of years ago.

6. Some of the Penguin reps (Nick L, e.g.) sometimes seemed a little grouchy off stage, in contrast to their more charming personas on stage. They could perhaps work on more consistent and pleasant presentations of self.

All that said, overall a worthwhile and enjoyable time. Thanks for arranging it.

Plus a question: any idea, please, where I could find a fuller description of the card force Dan Harlan used in his lecture? Thank you!

A fantastic experience with plenty of lectures and two killer shows. The best time is the jam session on Saturday night. This is something you should not miss when it comes to your city or state.

So glad I went.

MAXX was nicely organized and allowed for ample
time to meet with the vendors and performers. There many great deals and all the facilitators were cordial; responsive and organized. The day long workshops were scheduled with enough breaks and had a lot of valuable information

This was my first magic convention. I honestly believe that I was legitimately spoiled for all future conventions.

Everything exceeded my expectations and much much more. All the lectures/workshops were very informative, fun, and at times downright hilarious. All the speakers/special guests/performers were great.

Since this was my first convention and myself being relatively new to the magic scene, I honestly had no idea who any of these people were, the tricks they were known for or anything like that plus i'm terrible with names/faces. I had zero expectations and no idea really what to expect. Every single one of the guests was like approaching an old friend. Never once was I treated like some type of 'layman' because of my magical skills or lack thereof. The nicest people you could possibly imagine.

I bet I got several hours of basically one on one conversations with Garrett Thomas, Dan Harlan, Chad Long, Darryl Davis, Nicholas Lawrence, and many many more. This right here was worth the money all by itself.

The packages the special guests put together to sell as bundle deals were great as well. I literally bought all of them. It's gonna take years before I can open all of this much less learn all of this stuff.

And to legitimize this review I'm gonna list my one complaint about the whole thing. The dealers room. This website has 1000s and 1000s of tricks/books/props for sale on it. I think the penguin table had 10, maybe 15 different things. There definitely could've been more options and stuff for people to buy. I understand the individual dealers only selling their stuff but penguin definitely could've brought out more merchandise for sure. There weren't any classics for sale like thumb tips, scotch & soda, flash paper, sponge balls etc.

Welp. Thats all. Thanks again and can't wait till next time!

Penguin Magic MaXX convention Dallas March 15 & 16 2019
This was really a step up from the dealers show Penguin brought to Dallas a couple years back. This year there were 11 top of the line professional performing magicians both doing shows rather than dealer demonstrations and lectures like I remember from back in the day.
While I had only previously known of Losander, Dan Harlan, Chad Long, Michael Weber and Diamond Jim Tyler, The other 5: Garrett Thomas, the Other Brothers, NICK Locapo, Brent Braun, and Michael Kiminkas were no slouches either. All were super friendly and accessible for questions. All attendees received a goody bag with two special decks of cards, a couple of DVDs, Penguin Magic Magazine.
One of the special features of such gathering is the people you meet and renew acquaintances. Penguin Magic really facilitated that with half hour breaks between sessions and a special jam session Saturday night. My biggest problem at the convention (besides not being able to afford buying everything that caught my eye) was that any one of theses lectures were worthy of a weekend unto themselves.
My only complaint (or suggestion if you prefer) is almost a total absence of Kid Magic i.e. silks, sponges, colorful props ETC. As much as I admire the finger flinging finesse of these top notch professionals. My clients are largely (not exclusively) school age children. But then again I also enjoy magic just for me.
I have done business with Penguin for years and recommend highly with the reservations of lacking in the Kids Magic section.
I am looking forward to their next event.

What a great magical weekend. I loved the format that allowed the flexibility to do as much or little as you would want. Everyone there was so open to answering any questions, and helpful without being condescending. The shows were amazing, and the breakout sessions added multiple ideas for routines. Just have to say a special wow for Chad Long, Losander and Dan Harlan. Though all performers were amazing, these three were worth the admission alone. Thank you Penguin for keeping live magic alive with class!

This convention just wrapped up last night and my head is still spinning from all the magic I Was able to witness. Don’t think... just go. This event exceeded my expectations in every way possible. The headlining magicians are top tier and every single one of them were very nice and approachable. I was able to talk to several of these guys, all willing to answer any questions I had, and all masters of the craft. You owe it to yourself to go to one of these events. You just won’t get this level of teaching or entertainment for this price anywhere else. The variety of magic was perfect. Just do it!
