This is an excellent supplement to the book - I would recommend getting both. Then you could read
each chapter then watch the corresponding section on the DVD. The DVDs update the information in
the book. I can see that I will be spending allot of time with this series and making it a priority
for 2011. If you are looking just for effects there are over 70 on this series - but this allot
more then just a DVD of tricks - this is the college course in Mentalism and will get on a solid
foundation.

If you're serious about mentalism, Corinda's book, 13 Steps to Mentalism, is essential reading.
Osterlinds DVD series is an excellent companion to the book and provides numerous updates and tips.
I have purchased a lot of Osterlind's material (tricks, books, and DVDs). In general, they are top
quality and this DVD set is no exception. if you can afford it, get the book and this DVD set. The
two together provide an outstanding foundation in mentalism.

If you like mentalism then you are going to love this
You want to be a mentalist, but you don't live near a world-class master mentalist or have bags of
money to afford private lessons. Here's what you do. Buy these three things: Annemann, Corinda,
and these DVDs. Richard Osterlind is one of the world's finest mentalists and teachers. He brings
Corinda up to date by eliminating the outdated stuff, showing you stuff that is really difficult to
relate on the written page, and providing sage advice gleaned from over 45 years of experience as
one of the world's best. Even if you take just a casual interest in these DVDs, you'll learn. But
if you seriously put your mind to it, absorb Richard's teachings, and practice hard, I'm
guaranteeing that you will be better than most of the pros working today.
Sure, some
complain that these are bare-bones routines and demonstrations. So what. Corinda was intended as a
primer on mentalism techniques, not some collection of routines that you would simply copy. For
example, every mentalist needs to know how to use a swami gimmick and handle billets. Richard is
about the best there is at both techniques. He gives you the essentials. No fluff, no two dozen
alternate techniques, but ones that work.
Now Richard has his own version of 13 Steps.
I'm torn. I love that series too. (Truth be told, there's some overlap between the two 13-step
programs.) If forced at gunpoint, I would pick this series, though if you save your pennies, his own
series is also a masterpiece of instruction too.
I already bought the Corinda's book, is really the mentalism Bible! so, I decided to buy the DVD too
in order to have another point of view about the Corinda's book... both of them are great.
If you like mentalism, is the best invest you can make!! you will have great material for your
mentalism show!
worth every single penny. helps see and understand the concepts of the book. i give it high praise.
If you have experienced any difficulty visualising or interpreting the ideas presented in the pages
of this essential classic, then seriously consider treating yourself to this DVD set. Devoting a
considerable portion of his life to this volume, Richard Osterlind has worked hard and blown away
half a century of dust from these great effects, showing how with a bit of tweaking and imagination,
you can extract the gold that lies therein. And it's a rich seam! n.b.There are also absorbing
discussions between the two presenters. The perfect companion to a must-have book.
PS Thanks for
the lightening fast delivery - outstanding!
Firstly, I was enormously impressed by the speedy delivery of this DVD set, my first purchase from
Penguin Magic. You can only imagine my further delight as I ploughed through these discs watching
Richard blow half a century of dust from this essential book, bringing the subject matter to life in
a highly entertaining way. If you are a budding mentalist, you could do a lot worse than buy the
book and DVD set. Then you can work through both, step by step. Richard Osterlind has devoted a
sizeable chunk of his life into making Corrinda's impressive effects more accessible to the student,
and I am sure that if you put in a fraction of this effort into absorbing what he says, and listen
to the explanations and interviews carefully, you will be amply rewarded.
When I got the book 6 years ago I was very dissapointed because of how outdated it was. Boy did this
dvd set compensate for it.
- I should have got this dvd set 4 years ago. If you are looking to
just learn a few tricks for your company picnick or Christmas party. This dvd set is not for you.
-This dvd set is for the working professional who is using mentalism to suppliment thier
income. What you see is what you get.
- Ive bought dvd sets in the past that were let downs &
even held back tutorials on the really good stuff ( Mr. Spellman). You won't have any of that here.
- Don't let the price discourage you, its well worth the price of admition.
About 20 years ago I went to see Max Maven live. It was mind-blowing. After the show I asked Max
how I could learn to do what he does, and he told me to get the books 13 Steps to Mentalism by
Corninda and Annemann's Practical Mental Effects. When I got the books, I almost immediately
disregarded them as being old and 'outdated', thinking Max had tricked me.
Little did I
know.
As it turns out, the principles in these 'old' books provide the core concepts and
foundational principles for almost all mentalism performed today. It's true there is a never-ending
stream of innovation, clever new twists and creative application by contemporary performers, but
most of the effects are still achieved by the principles taught in 13 Steps to Mentalism and
Annemann's Practical Mental Effects.
In the incredible DVD set, Richard Osterlind has
ingeniously taken many of the core principles Corninda taught, updated them, and brought them to
life.
If you want to learn how to become a mentalist, and want to gain a solid
understanding of mentalism's key principles and methods, studying this 6 DVD set is one of the best
possible places to start.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
