I picked this up as an auction item, as I was curious to see how it compared with other roughing options. It’s not bad, but I found it a little finicky. If you follow the instructions (though I did need a heavier application to both cards), this performs pretty well. But it does seem to work more by adhesion than friction, which means the cards hold pretty well until separated but not as well if you’re trying to re-adhere the cards on the fly. I’m not sure I’d buy this over other products on the market, but it’s okay for the price and a block will last you a while.

I watched the video and followed the directions. I hate to say anything bad, but this doesn't work. I am glad I used jokers and advert cards. The deck is still new and still good. The joker and advert cards—well, they normally hit the trash can anyway. My kids used to use cheap candles to wax the curb out front and skate. It was the only way to keep an eye on them and the police off their backs. Anyway, I grabbed one of those cheap dollar store candles; I think we got 4 or 5 for a dollar—little white candles. The candle held longer than this cube did. I would recommend a different rough stick from Penguin.

I haven't been using for a long time but it did help bring a packet rough and smooth trick back to life.

It isn't friction based but it allow for easier separation than some other roughing methods.

It is a good roughing tool, but some may prefer older methods this is more modern take that has some good applications.

So far it seems once you separate you would have to reapply the roughing cube to use again.

This could be an advantage but for most it would mean extra work.

Recommend as a roughing tool for your toolbox.
