This is Wayne's take on the classic Diary Card effect.

As ever, he has routined it to be SUPER-SIMPLE to perform:

NO STACKS - NO ARITHMETIC - NO MEMORIZING - NO CRIBS
NO SLEIGHT OF HAND - ONLY ONE DIARY - INSTANT RESET

Not only is it a strong effect, but the Houdini theme is intriguing and memorable.

You offer to show them the trick Houdini claimed as his favorite card trick!

It involves a vintage diary - and you managed to get hold of one of Houdini's original private diaries.

As a man fascinated by the occult, Houdini liked to write the name of a playing card against every day in the diary, in the belief that particular cards had resonance with certain days of the year.

The spectator calls out any date in the year that means something special to them: a genuine, free choice.

When you spread the deck face down, every card is blue-backed except for one card - which is red-backed AND bears Houdini's signature on the back!

The spectator only now turns to the date and confirms that the cards for that week are all different. For the first time, they tell you the name of the card at that particular date.

The amazing coincidence is that their chosen date was the very one that Houdini's pet dog died; the single red card is now shown to be the very same card.

You'll love the antique diary and photograph Bob Gill designed and Alan Wong produced especially for this effect.

But most of all, you'll love Wayne's very funny comedy presentation that is the making of this routine: one you'll enjoy performing - every time you do it.

Not the best diary trick Report this review

First I have to say that we all know Wayne Dobson is a master performer and creator. I own tons of his work! That said... With this one you cannot hand out the chosen card for inspection. You really cannot let anyone check the diary because for each month the diary is made in a repetitive form without giving too much away. You are provided with a gimmick but at the end you cannot give the card away as a souvenir.im going to use the diary in my own way so that I can give away the card if the spectator wanted it. The best part of this is the diary and thats the only reason. That I'm not returning this for a refund.

This is my second review and unfortunately its gets worse. If you are a person who prefers a downloadable video or maybe even a DVD for you instructions...well sorry but this is a downloadable PDF. The one gimmick card that is supplied turns out it is a fake bycicle card that really does stand out in the deck that we have to supply. Again I'm only keeping this because of the diary itself. I'm still working on my own presentations of this but I will not be using the routine that is provided and I don't think many people will.

Well, let's talk about the positives. This is essentially a prediction effect. It uses a diary which is very nice looking and well produced.

It has a brainwave type feel to it with the one odd card out thing going. I'm sure from the spectators perspective it's rather impressive.

The humorous routine and patter is fun but doesn't save the trick.

The negative is that the method is nothing exciting and no doubt if you have been around magic for any length of time have come across similar methods.

Like the other reviewers mentioned the card cannot be examined. This trick has the feel where it would be nice to let the spectator keep the card as a memento as well, which you cant. The gimmick card is also not made from genuine bicycle stock.

The diary itself will also not stand up to thorough scrutiny. Which for me is ok because they really have no reason to, so don't let them.

Over all I wouldn't recommend this, especially at 30$ the diary is nice but who cares.

If I could find a good use for the Diary it self I would give this four stars.
The Diary is very cool, but useless. The gimmick which is not really a gimmick, but just a prop is complicated to use. The instructions are PDF
and very hard to follow. Too much card handling and manipulation is required. A video file would be very helpful. I really was enthusiastic for this to work well, but I am very disappointed. I should of paid attention to the other reviews and just avoided the temptation.😤
PS this was an open box and I am still miffed.
