This is how folks such as Dan Sperry got started, just noodling around at home with readily available resources. This rising card version is nothing earth shaking but costs nothing. The video is poor to fair and the narration is distracting. Fortunately Zack does not edit out the failures so the viewer will learn that even after construction he will need to fine tune this simple construction. Looking forward to more from this guy. Stop flicking the card as a flourish.

Fair disclosure: I just watched the video, and I haven't even attempted to construct the gimmick or perform the effect. That said, the explanation left me with the distinct impression that this will be very easy to make and learn.

I'm pretty sure this is the best $2.00 I've ever spent on Penguin Magic.

You need a deck of cards and two or three ordinary items that are almost surely lying around your house right now — or, if they're not in your house, they are readily available at any Staples or WalMart.

The gimmick is not examinable, but it is also easy to ditch. It's a bit like the standard gimmick (loop, weight, and sticky stuff), only much thinner. For all intents and purposes it is the size of a single card. You must add and/or remove this gimmick from the equation in order to make the magic happen, but hey, new flash, folks; there's no such thing as real magic. There's always going to be "something."

It's a damn good trick, with an effect that is essentially identical to more popular methods, and with a gimmick that is cheaper and easier to construct – and easier to deploy and remove as well.

Buy it.

The idea is sound but the gimmick needs work. I suggest it be attached to a second card with the selected card placed between the two attached gimmicks.
