Impromptu Deck Set-up Report this review

Too many cards set up for impromptu
effect. Bad to have all face up also. Jay Ose presented this as a "chance" effect and had the Ace of Spades on top of the deck. I do not know if he had other cards set up or not but a few others can be set up impromptu - only reversing ONE in the middle of the pack. Reveal the one of the few set up if named and use a full Invisible deck or Brainwave Deck as your out. See my article "Name A Card!" in the April 1987 issue of Genii magazine. Jim

Nice and Classic Principle at a Perfect Price Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on January 14th, 2023
The idea wasn't groundbreaking or truly "impromptu" (it can be done with a normal deck of cards, but you will have to set it up in a way that's diffictult to conceal throughout an ongoing performance), but it's practical and it gives you a nice routine, through which you can prcatice a technique which in my opinion is a cornerstone in "hands-off" magic & mentalism.

If that wasn't enough, it's completely free - so you've got literally nothing to lose from downloading the instructions.

I do wish that the manuscript discussed more on various applications of the ideas in use, or different versions of the effect.

Good for beginners but better methods exist. Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on November 15th, 2019
I learned several beginner routines that use this exact method to drive the trick. Unfortunately the selection method is not robust and spectators who see a lot of magic will figure it out right quick.

If you're a beginner, this will teach you an important principle, but the actual routine overuses it to the point it risks exposure.

That said, practice a few times and you'll have it. The main advantage is it's easy.

Not a new idea Report this review
Verified buyer Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on August 25th, 2019
The idea is good and it gets good response from the audience, however this isn't a new idea, and there are better versions of it in the market. A much better implementation of the same idea can be found under the same name in the 3 DVD set called between 3 Minds by Jay Lavli, Liam Gold and Itamar Weisz

Old Hat Report this review

This is an "old hat" in a new hat box. I've been doing something like this for years... back to my adolescent years and I'm 70 now.
