Does Pocket Nightmare depend on a black background and dim lighting?

Is this a trick that can be performed outdoors or in good lighting conditions?
Is it something that a beginner magician could learn to do, or does it actually require amazing slight of hand (even though Max says it is not slight of hand)?

This trick is a piece of cake to do and you can perform it anywhere. It works great on stage, close up, or in a parlor situation.

Lighting doesn't matter at all and neither does your costume. You can produce the card from any pocket with the same result.

There is no sleight of hand needed.
