Is the Groove Electric Switch just the Dan and Dave spread control?

The effect he does in the preview just looks like Subway from Dan and Dave Buck's the System, without the plunger move. Is this control distinct from Dan and Dave's Control?

It is distinctly different from the DMB Spread Control as used in Subway by Dan and Dave. At 0:52 in the video you get a brief glimpse of the switch in progress, you can see that the switch happens as the cards are fanned. The DMB Spread Control switches the card with less motion.

The single card across effect he teaches is just an example of one of the many possible applications for the move. The idea of a card traveling from one packet to another predates Dan and Dave. The addition of the plunger move and the DMB Spread Control make it unique to them.

The effect in the Groove Electric Switch does not use either of these moves.
