Oh and lastly. In my proposed handling with the scissors. I would put the scissors away and at that point of just finishng putting them away i would then say, (im not going to use these scissors but instead use my hands the old fashioned way). Its about the timming. Say the words after not before. Hope this all helps.

Some regular sized scissors would work but it would be akward to cut and hold at the same time. So I would (in minor detail) say - i was going cut this up everone with these scissors(then put the scissors and stuff in my pocket) and say lets do this the old fashioned way and (im clean, cleanly) tear the pieces up into a million little peices and make it as dramatic as the burning the paper would be and then put torn up peices of paper into a glass very see through cup that the spectator is holding intead of the ashtray.

Oh, if scissors instead of the scissors(because i just thought about scissors going into your pocket) you can say you will staple( mini stapler) the paper closed but tear the paper up with your fingers. But small scissors would be good as well eithr in my handling if the way to use them or in your initial thought of scissors handling.
