SPIDER PEN PRO - can you use it to float a BORROWED ring?

Thinking of buy Yigal Mesika's Spider Pen Pro but first wondering if it would work for an effect in which I borrow a spectator's ring, make it float, and then hand it back to him/her...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
