The common mistake is that with many sleights (mostly coins, cds) is that the audience has a tendancy to devalue and 'break down the magic' by not appreciating the routine for its extreme and clever handling and manipulation.
Instead of thinking 'wow that looked so cool!', and this is what many magicians forget, they think 'oh yeah he had it behind his hand.'
With any trick I do, I want to fool them entirely. If you don't, well, they won't be amazed (at all). The least you'll get out of them is a 'that's cute' kinda thought.
Ask yourself what reaction you're gonna get (whether it's 'can I see that prop?''I know how you did that' or 'how the hell did you do that?')
Always ask yourself that question.
Magicians may appreciate these tricks more than the skeptics out there. Beware.

Anything made my Magic Makers and Rob Stiff is guaranteed to blow. I bought it because I like to give some magic a chance... But this blows like every other Magic Makers product ever.

"Showoff with CDs" DVD by Eddy Ray
Suggested Retail USD.00
In a Blink: 9 Out of 10
Eddy Ray has broken new ground and the result is a goldmine for stage manipulators or those wanting to be.
Magic, to me, becomes elevated when objects normal people have laying around their normal dwellings in their normal lives. I've often wondered why CDs, the ubiquitous shiny platters of the Digital Age, haven't been utilized more in magic (other then the token routines in the dealer's catalogs and the dabblings I've done with them). What I didn't know was that Eddy Ray was working on just that thing, and working on it brilliantly.
"Showoff with CDs" (a demo video is available on Ray's website) is Eddy Ray's work with discs, and it's almost encyclopedic in what it covers. The basics are here (with an accent on subtle changes in the Tenkai Palm specifically for CDs), but also the more advanced stuff like multiple productions and vanishes. Ray even goes into some clever gimmicks using BA that result in absolutely beautiful, striking effects. All told, there are almost three dozen handlings and bits of business packed onto this disc which are more than enough to be put together to form a cohesive -- and quite different -- stage manipulation act.
That last is important. CD manipulation is relatively new. There's very little out there to learn, and still less that allow you to put together your own act. "Showoff with CDs" has such a wide variety of vanishes (from simple "toss away" vanishes of a single CD to the vanish of a fan of CDs), productions (at the fingertips, a full fan, and even "split" productions), and transformations (balls and silver confetti turn to CDs, CDs change color, and even grow from "mini" to "regular"), that assembling just the pieces on this disc can result in a gorgeous and different routine. That's beautiful in its own right. There really is no need to go searching for more things to learn when the things Ray teaches are enough to get you going.
And Ray does a phenomenal job of teaching each of those things. Everything on "Showoff with CDs" is taught in loving detail to make sure you get the handling down perfectly and as quickly as possible. As with any manipulation act, there are pieces you'll pick up quickly and other pieces you'll struggle with, but in the end, Ray's efforts as an instructor will make even the hardest parts easier for you to learn. Further, the production values of this disc are fairly high -- lighting, sound, and authoring are all first-rate -- which just makes Ray's explanations that much more worthwhile.
Now, a caveat of sorts. I've mentioned a few times that this is for stage manipulators; that's not strictly true. There are a couple of pieces which apply to close-up work (or could, at any rate), things Ray put together strictly for mini-CDs. However, the vast majority of material here is for those working stage and platform and really is of the most benefit for those performs looking for something new and different and eye-catching while standing under spotlights.
New, different, eye-catching... there's the sum total of Eddy Ray's "Showoff with CDs". For my money, you can throw in "magical" and "creative" and "treasure", too.

This is a great DVD. It teaches you a lot of magic with CDs and also an ingenious effect using a gimmicked CD. Don't not buy this because it's a MM product. This is a high quality DVD with A LOT of information and definetly worth getting!

You learn like one move then he repeats it slightly differntly about 70 times! AND during EVERY performance part before he teaches HE FLASHES! MAYBE theres one or 2 he doesnt flash but if the so called "mather" flashes 99% of the time then how are we suppose to not????

DVD seems to be have a lots of materials but many of them are repeated. For instance, he teaches how to vanish a cd and produce a cd. and in another section he teaches how to vanish and produce 4 cds. both are same technique, just to create a big list of menu they added same trick with different names.
Not worth to buy, I got it free so I feel lucky. If the price were lower, then it would be worth it to buy.
Good For Stage Report this review

I got this dvd for free, and DID watch it. I personally do not like it, mostly because this CD magic is designed for stage, and I don't do stage, only street stuff. Also just like the reviewers below said, the man on a dvd repeats all the moves in 30 different variations.
Buy it if you have a stage show at some club, you have to have black background for most of the vanishes he does on this dvd.

This is not the greatest DVD. I got it for free, so I'm not complaining, but I hardly every use any of the effects in it.
Most of the effects are based on one key move, which makes it pretty much impossible for close-up (what I do).
I would not recommend this unless you are a stage performer.

I paid the full price and I love it. Just learning the secrets alone is worth the money. I'm now a beginner and able to produce and vanish CDs on the Fly.
One slight problem Report this review
Pro Privacy ON (login to see reviewer names) on July 17th, 2006
There is a significant flaw with this DVD. The flaw is that Eddy Ray is left handed. This is should have been explained on the DVD. Eddy Ray is a virtuoso manipulator, he is very creative and an excellent teacher, however his left-handedness can be very confusing.
