Good idea, worth the money, but don't expect to become a mind reader because of this.

Simply put ... not his best. I agree with another reviewer, this should have been a giveaway idea.
It sounds like it would be a way to find the first letter of a word from say a book test but it's not. Not worth 5 clams. Did this review help you?
This is not worthy of selling as an effect. This is a side note in a magic book at best. In fact,
I am going to have a really hard time buying anything more from Matt Mello. It is a bit shameless
that he would pass such garbage off as a legitimate effect to be sold individually. If this were a
side note to something more substantial, that would be ok. If you are familiar with the term
"throw-away gag", this is a "throw-away non-gag". Sorry, but I can't endorse it.

Vocal Misdirection

I think the coolest thing about this trick is that you can tell Matt actually thinks about what he
says to an audience member. He breaks down every nuance and beat for maximum entertainment and wow
factor. I can almost see that Matt probably originally tried this out as a gag and then it
consistently worked to astonish the audience. As a hypnotist I know that what we say and how we say
it really impacts how a spectator is going to react. Doing something like this on its own may not
create that much of a profound response but doing this leads people down the garden path to fry them
later in the routine. In some ways it could be better for you if they catch on and even call you out
on doing it, because it eases tension in a way that alleviates the spectators from trying too hard
to catch you up later on in your set. I like to call it vocal misdirection. You are really just
playing with your audience.
I was trying this out in some of my routines over the weekend and it absolutely killed when I combined it with a hypnosis routine that I do where the spectator actually forgets their own name. For people that already own this I bet you can imagine how well that plays out and how well it could work with this routine. I am impressed with this and for $5 you can't go wrong in picking this up. I'm guessing who ever wrote the first review is not a mentalist. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong but most
mentalists understand the impact and value of "side effects" such as with Nameless.
If you are expecting a trick that you are going to perform anytime you want, this isn't for you. As a matter of fact, if you aren't a WORKING performer, skip this unless for 5 bucks you would like to see the kinds of things that elevate performances. It is worth it for that alone but I do think people should know if it is for them or not. Did this review help you?
