Unlock a TREASURE TROVE of eye-candy with Cody Nottingham. 17 dynamite new effects that will surprise even the most experienced pros.

How Cody has managed to stay underground while developing such visual magic is possibly the most amazing thing about him.

Code Red is full of material that's easy enough for amateurs, and hard-hitting enough for the pros.

Practical, innovative new close-up magic you're going to LOVE.

17 Effects taught:

Sole Change is a visual card change that can be used in any routine. The change happens in full view as one card visually morphs into another.

Purity Change is a versatile move that can be used as a switch, or a color change. All the movements are completely natural, and it looks extremely fair.

Water Slide Change happens in a blink of an eye but is one of the most visual card changes you will ever see.

Center Switch uses natural misdirection to create a devious switch. The best part is the spectator thinks they have been watching their selection the entire time.

Halved. Finally a torn and restored card effect that is quick, flashy and easy to do. A card is torn in half and BOOM it's restored at the fingertips. It doesn't get more direct than that.

Fast Cash. Perfect for a quick visual moment of magic using something people always have and doing something people always want. You show a dollar bill and with very little movement you can instantly change it to a or any denomination you choose.

Messages is a visual revelation of a prediction on a coin. With this method you are able to instantly change scribbled markings on a coin into a written prediction.

Boxed is an impromptu visual card to box method that has loads of possibilities.

Pop Out. Pop Out uses a brand new gimmick that allows you to perform a visual and extremely convincing card through box illusion. The gimmick not only makes this effect fooling to the eyes, it also makes it incredibly easy to perform.

Depth Perception. Ever want to demonstrate what it is like for a card to travel through the deck? Depth Perception does exactly that. A card is placed half way into a deck of cards and rises through the deck seemingly on its own.

Two Box allows you to gain access to a closed card box at any time. Load cards, steal cards, many possibilities.

Gone. Show a deck half way out of the card box, riffle down the edge, close the box and now the deck is gone. The only thing that remains is the spectators selection.

Dropbox is a utility device that allows to perform coin penetration effects, use it for mentalism, it could even be used as a hold out for cards.

Metro Transpo. Great 4 card transpo with an awesome kicker ending.

Fast Food. A sandwich effect where the spectators selected card visually appears between the 2 aces.

Waterfall Change. Hyper visual color change that happens while the card is placed halfway in the middle of the deck.

Noble Aces is a simple and direct version of the Hofzinser's Aces effect perfect for anytime you need to show a quick trick that has multiple magic moments.

I knew I should have trusted my instinct on this one. The trailer showed very little and it was marketed as "The most visual magic video of the year." and "In 10 years I haven't seen a magic video this visual." Are you kidding me!! These are the quotes I received in my email in regards to this download. The trailer practically shows you nothing. It's 17 tricks!! You can't show us anything other than some color/card changes?

These tricks are not terrible; just boring. some are better than others of course but they crammed way too much into this. They require a lot of practice and some are not so original. Some reviewers said:

"I almost fell asleep watching it! I wish Cody would liven it up and make the learning fun! "

"A large majority of the material is composed of quick color changes and tricks that are far more complicated than they are worth. "

These statements are extremely accurate! Stay way from this one. Save your money and move on. I appreciate the work that went into this but I'd consider this a download someone should have released for free. Meh! SHM

Even though a lot of it is angle sensitive some of the ideas are super great. The ideas just need to be improved a little. If you want visual magic think about. If you want practical tricks STAY AWAY.

I was blown away by the refreshing ideas that Cody presents in "Code Red." Most of the effects on here are VERY visual. I personally won't use all of them, but seeing the way he thinks helped stimulate my own creative senses as well.

Some reviewers are complaining about the teaching being boring and that a few of the effects require a lot of set up. That's just personal preference. I thought that the teaching was fine. Yes, some of the gimmicks that Cody teaches may be time consuming to make, but he's simply presenting HIS ideas. Although I won't be making these gimmicks anytime soon, I gained knowledge by watching how they are constructed.

The non-gimmick effects are definitely workable. Some reviewers seem to be biased towards the fact that they are not revolutionary. Not every newly released book, DVD, or effect is revolutionary, again, Cody is presenting HIS ideas and creations. I like seeing his way of thinking and creating magic.

I'm glad I bought this during the Cool Box special period. Definitely worth every penny!

17 impractical, convoluted, and pointless "effects." A large majority of the material is composed of quick color changes and tricks that are far more complicated than they are worth.

I did like two of the tricks: the TNR effect was nice, but is so short and out of place, I can't imagine ever fitting it into a routine.
There is also an effect that involves a card falling down the middle of the deck, which is cool, but also pointless. You are making a card travel from the middle of the deck (towards the top) to the middle of the deck (towards the bottom). He briefly mentions that it can be used to find a selected card, but never explains how.

If you are looking for some flashy, angly things to show off at a magic convention or with your magician friends, this may be for you, but professionals and performers should pass on this one.

Irritatingly SLOW Explantaions Report this review

There have been many times I got annoyed with a magician's incomplete or incoherent explanations, but this is the first time I have gotten fed up with someone who is too thorough.

Cody Nottingham is pedantically deadly as an instructor in the effects he teaches. He never just explains the effect or slight step by step, all the way through in one go. No. He explains it through the 1st position, stops, goes back, explains it through the 1st position again, stops, explains it through the 1st position a third time, then when you are sure that he has exhausted the 1st position nuances, does it one more time just to be sure you are solidly asleep before starting in on the 2nd position. He then repeats the 1st position and the 2nd position, stops, goes back to the 1st position, reviews that in case you had forgotten it, before showing the 2nd position again. Next he repeats the 1st and 2nd position. Then for contrast repeats the 1st and 2nd positions. One more time with the 1st and 2nd positions, then the 3rd position. This process is repeated over and over and over again for all 107 steps in the effect. As a result, you never get a sense of the flow of the moves in the effect, and are ready to commit violence against him should you ever meet him in person.

There may be some nice effects in this DVD, but I could not stay awake long enough through the explanations to find out if any of them are actually practical. This DVD could easily be 1/4 of its length with proper editing and you would not miss a thing. Unless you are a masochist, give this one a pass.

I really like this download because there are loads of cool little effects that you can do and add in to your working repertoire. There's a few things that I might use in single performances for video or so forth. But I would definitely add more material using it and my favourite thing on this down was changing ink on the back of the coin, which you can alter it in to anything you want. This is something you buy off another company for $10... Just saying. I do think this a really good download for magicians who like visual tricks. And value for money is pretty good. Well worth a look at.

The tricks are not difficult and any color change can be used to reveal a card. This is a great deal for your Buck.

17 effects for the price you pay I think is an awesome deal I think there is something for everyone one on here. The bill change I think was worth the money of the whole set. The effect is easy to do and easy to set up and what I really like about it the bill could be given out to examined or use for currency which is what I like, something you can do when you’re out and about. As one person had said a lot of these effects are quick and hard to make in a routine, but they have their place. Such as a noise bar or some place that is just load these little gems are great eye candy when it’s too load to talk They are also great pieces for jazz magic and I do think they could be incorporated into a full routine, although the effects are too quick to justify a full routine I believe that they can be added to a full routine. The TNR card is a great example it stands out as a great jazz magic piece or could follow another TNR effect by saying, but why do one piece at a time very slowly when as a magician I should do it very quickly like so? Anyhow I think that it is some great very well thought out effects with some original thinking and differently worth the price. My only complaint is although he goes through pain stacking detail to show you the moves and bring you through the trick. It can literally be pain stacking detail. For newbie’s this is fine I had only wished he would have taken you through the steps and moves one time through quickly, then go through the details afterword’s. For seasoned card people it’s pretty long winded, one time through at speed would have been enough for me to catch on. Other than that I think it’s a great download, so I rated it 4 stars.

Great Effects, Not So Great Download Report this review

So I rated three out of five for these reasons.
Three stars go to the effect and the clarity of the teaching.
I reduced two stars because of the drollness of the teaching, I almost fell asleep watching it! I wish Cody would liven it up and make the learning fun!
All in all I highly recommend this download.
