Mr. Lovell gives Phenomenal advice. (Like all the books and videos you purchase, if you learn one presentation and one trick that you use in real life situations, this is worth your time and money). I am a full time entertainer and am finding his advice and little "odd" ways refreshing! This is a Wonderfilled DVD! "Method behind the madness".

The 3 DVD set of Simon's material is great. It is more than just a slew of routines, but there are also great sleights involved within the routines. Contained within the routines are color changes, controls, and packet switches that are very creative and deceptive. I have to say my favorite at the moment is Imagination. Buy it now!
I haven't bought it .........YET! Report this review

I met this guy and we had a talk on magic and the guy is hilarious. I asked him if he wanted to sit down then he said: "what in the world am I gonna use a chair for I'll just watch the show standing up for 2 straight hours" and that's how I met him. The man is a genious.
Awesome! Report this review

I really really really love these DVD's.....I got them yesterday and I stayed up til 3a.m. watching them....I swear to you that these are the best DVDs on this website...I have bought about 10 or 12 dvds from Penguin (every Jay Sankey DVD, Stealing Pips, Born to Perform, and more) and this one is most entertaining...and I learned the absolute most from these... the tricks are awesome and about 95 percent of them you can use with a borrowed deck... a lot of the tricks have no setup also!! And he really shows you how to perform with the tricks... (editorial deletion) Simon truly is funny, and a great teacher..... my favorite DVD... I am going to perform all of these tricks and I'll be set for a long time!
Truly one of the best DVD sets I own Report this review

I own hundreds of magic DVDs, (I buy them all) and this one is certainly one of my favorites. I only pick the highest quality of magic to perform and work on, the ones I feel work best for me. I just got finished watching Simon Lovell's new DVDs, and I made a list of over ten effects I want to add to my walkaround material ASAP. I am glad I have a few weeks off before I teach summer school to lock myself in my basement and get the routines performace ready. He is truly amazing, and what an excellent performer. I enjoyed a lot of aspects about the DVDs, and I will list a few.
Simon is very deep and puts emotion into his performances. There were a few moments that may tear you up.
Simon explains the tricks in great detail, breaking down all the moves. He doesn't just say, "You need to control the card to the top." He explains how he controls the card to the top and his thinking behind his methods. With each move he goes in depth to explain his way of executing each move. The DVD set is in way like an encylopedia of card sleights, well thought out routines, and the pyschology behind the routines all in one.
He doesn't do complicated magic. Most of it is very practical, resets, and is perfect for walkaround settings.
I have been searching for quality tricks to perfom for couples (I just got finished working many afterproms) and there are a few in there that will make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
His anology of magic compaired to good horror film writers will help you routine your sets.
Rob Stiff is there to make sure Simon doesn't forget to explain everything.
In closing, "The Methods Behind the Madness" is well worth the price. I am usually disappointed with magic purchases and only use about 5% percent of my material. I am sure to use many of routines, thoughts, and ideas I have learned and will continue to learn through the years. 10/10

I think the DVD set is ok. All the tricks were very basic. I didn't learn a single sleight which was a downer. I thought he filled the DVD's alot with all the talking he does. For like a 2 minute trick, on the DVD's he spends like 10 minutes talking about some magician on how he used a one way deck. A few times I felt my self thinking get on with it already. I think if they cut out all of his talking but the patter to go along with the tricks, the set would be like 2 DVD's. If you are an intermedieate magician, know most of the basics, I won't reccomend these DVD's. If you are beginning and have mastered all the basics and looking for some easy, but strong tricks, get this DVD set. But I won't recommend this for a person who has been into magic for a year or something and looking for some good material, keep looking. I was looking forward to learning some new sleights, but they weren't there.

I have several dozens of magic dvds and these definitely stand out as one of the best. They are DEFINITELY the best in card magic because almost all the effects are original and creative. Furthermore, all these effects get amazing reactions and are fairly simple to do with no crazy sleights. Most of the effects on the DVD you will add in your repertoire and will keep on doing from performance to performance. Simon Lovell is truely a man who understands magic theory and his teachings will surprise and enlighten you. If you like card magic even the slightest bit, get this dvd set right now! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

I had great expectations, when I ordered the DVD. You guys stating it is "One of the five best magic DVD sets ever produced" !
It turned out to be disappointing. The setting in which the video has been made, doesn't do Simon any justice. It's just a one on one close-up trick session.
It might have been better to show the tricks in a real performance setting, to get the best out of Simon.
I must say that I haven't seen all of it, but what I can say that it is a low budget DVD, terribly filmed bad lighting, lousy spectator, the intro on the 3 dvd's are the same. It's just TERRIBLY LOW BUDGET !
Come on Penguin you can do better than that!
