Raven used to be something I used on occassion. It's been shelved for years now. I wouldn't go as far as to say I don't recommend it, but its something that I think the cons outweigh the pros. -The trick has been exposed on television and is widely exposed over the internet. It's one of those tricks, because of David Blaine's popularity for a time, that is just easily exposed all over the place. - This trick requires some setup and will not work in all conditions. You will need to dress particularly in order to have success with this trick. So it loses practicality points because of that. - The trick requires special gimmicks in addition to the Raven itself to work properly. - The affect can be troublesome or even dangerous if held near certain everyday items. I've had my fair share of extreme frustration due to negative things that have happened out of my own control due to the Raven. All in all, its a cool effect but the cons are substantial. There are a lot of things you can do with Raven, from disappearances, to transformations, to PK effects...but it comes at a cost. If you are interested in the effect and willing to sacrifice practicality and ease for the effects, by all means do it. It's just not something I'm willing to do anymore. Did this review help you?

First off, just because this is only getting 3 stars doesn't mean I don't think this is extremely
cool or hard hitting magic. In fact, it's an incredible effect. But for me, it all boils down to
practicality.
If you are a good coin handler, basically everything you can do with the raven can also be done without the gimmick. Maybe not quite as perfectly cleanly, but pretty darn close. In my honest opinion, someone performing the raven vanish versus someone performing a fluid retention vanish...the effect is identical in the mind of a spectator. Maybe I'm just being a purist, but if you can do something ungimmicked I don't see a reason to gimmick it. Here's the trade-offs in a nutshell. Using the Raven, you will be performing arguably the cleanest vanish in magic. However you will be forced to wear a gimmick when you perform. Unless you live in certain countries, you will not be able to use regular coins in your vanishes. You won't be able to borrow US currency and do this [editors note: without a switch]. If you're a fan of close up magic this is pretty much a must have. The effects you can do really hit
home. I had one for 5 years before having to replace it.
The only reason I'm giving it a 4 star review is the shell nickel is comes with wasn't the same as the mini-nickel also included. The shell was a new nickel (with the new face) and the mini one was an old nickel. Did this review help you?

so i must say i love this effect. i bought this years and years ago, one of the only tricks i own i
didn't get from penguin, but i was at my local magic shop and the owner recommended this to me. i
live in canada and for once it is an advantage for a trick, our coins are different up here and
don't require special gimmicks to make it work. highly recommend it, especially to canadians, self
working and hits hard. even if i needed to practice a little more with other countries coins i would
gladly just because of the jaw droppin reactions you will get.

Pros :
-Incredible Effect -You will master it in a day or two - Can be done in a short sleeved shirt - Freaks people out Cons : -Directions are hard to understand (but everything is explained very clearly in the forums) - Harder to do for short sleeves -Long and irritating set up (but when u get used to it you'll get faster at it) Did this review help you?
People are floored when this is presented properly. The materials are top quality. Create a
presentation goes a long way. Beginners will need to practice a great deal to master the handling
and attachment.

This is a fantastic gimmick and arguably one of the most well known in all of magic... for good
reason.
Having the ability to do a "bare-handed" coin vanish on the SPECTATORS hand without EVER TOUCHING their hand is just... An amazing ability worth hundreds of dollars, if you were to put a value on it. Regardless, this is a gimmick that does not only vanish, oh no. The ideas don't stop when you pick this up; you can vanish, change and manipulate objects at will and end COMPLETELY clean afterwards. This is a great one but If you like me and just wear a short sleeve shirt all the time then this is
not for you...If you wear a jacked or sleeves then this will make you very happy.

first off, this is the by far one of my favorite props. I had a little trouble with it at first, but
after a while it got easier. if you do buy this, I recommend you also get the dvd because it gives
you great ideas you can do with this. I was unlucky because I bought mine for ten dollars more at
the local magic shop,

What a great piece if magic, amazing for beginners and everyone wanting to get into magic. It may
take a day or two to get used to it and to work out your routine but now I can easily get the raven
around my finger with one hand. As I said awesome trick and great reactions from spectator as long
as you don't perform it more than once. I love it!
