A card is selected and returned to the deck. The deck is put into its case. A ribbon is threaded through the hole which runs through the case and cards. the deck is removed from the case. (The ribbon automatically pulls free of the case but is still threaded through the deck). The ends of the ribbon are tied together. The deck is returned to the case. The magician says "Probably, it would be better if I completed the trick without using the case." So the cards are removed from the case. The deck is held in one hand. The ends of the ribbon are pulled down and the selected card rises from the deck free of the ribbon.
