It almost hurt to watch these. The Magic is almost useless in most circumstances, though there are a few good ideas. But because of all the crud, the good ideas are very difficult to find. Gerry has a horrible presentation and does not do many of the sleights he uses that well. Many of the effects use duplicates and the majority do not end clean by far. There are plenty of items on Penguin which are better to spend money on. Do not buy this.

This dvd is only for begginers really. The effects are not impromptu and often require duplicate sevens. If you are a begginer maybe otherwise don't get it.
I would strongly recomend born to perform by Oz Pearlman for begginers.

How can anyone pull that off? |

I would give this a 0 if the rating system allowed me to. This is the worst set of DVDs that has walked the face of the planet.
I don't see how anyone can make a 3 DVD set without a good routine. Everything is suspicious, has bad setup, or uses an extra set of 7s. Most of the effects leave these extra 7s in a place where if you tried to do another effect right after they would see the 7s. Also when you have the extra 7s in the deck is not examinable.
Also a whole lot of the magic on this tape uses gaffed cards. I'm not against gaffs, but it sure makes it hard to be impromptu. Also you have to get rid of the gaffs if you want to do other magic right after the gaffed card effect.
I would not perform 1 routine in this DVD because they all are bad in one way or another. What I suggest to everyone reading this review is to save your money and buy something good from magicians who are dedicated to the customer, like Oz Pearlman or Jay Sankey.

could be better |

I just picked this set up today at my local shop. I was a LITTLE dissappointed.
Don't get me wrong, there are some awesome tricks on these DVDs, but I do have a few problems with them.
first off, practicality. there are a few tricks on here that take little to no set-up, and that's great, but most of the tricks require advance set up, extra cards, gaffs, and other such nonsense. you'd pretty much have to open with these tricks, cuz you won't be able to do a lot of them on the spot.
second, CLEAN UP! Oh my lord! almost every single trick on here requires MAJOR clean up that can't be done without exposing the trick. Not to mention the fact that he doesn't even EXPLAIN how to go about cleaning it up.
last, the dvds themselves. now Gerry can get pretty dull going through the explanations, but he does explain everything fairly well. Someone before me also said the music is pretty bad. I agree.
In my honest opinion, your money would be better spent on the Simon Lovell Madness Behind the Methods DVD set.

The DVDs in itself are pretty decent, that is if you're relatively new to magic. Be warned that the most advanced move on this set of DVDs is a Turnover Pass, and that most of the tricks here involve set-ups. No impromptu magic to be found. Gerry seems to really like the Erdnase Change, for he uses it in almost all his tricks. Not to mention gimmicked cards.
Good for beginners, but not for intermediate or advanced magicians.
