One of the reasons I bought this was because I read that this is supposed to be able to clean up packet tricks such as 'Very Wild' by Boris Wild.
......It doesn't.
In fact Tomás Medina confesses that it doesn't on the DVD. Basically, you are *twice* as dirty at the end of the trick because 'The Exchange isn't examinable either.
The idea behind the deck is alright and the demo looks o.k., but I wasn't really that impressed when I received it.

With this deck one could perform; Three Card Monte without gaffed cards, a VERY visual Torn and
Restored, Rising Card, Cards Across (use two decks), card forces, mentalism, where does it end?!!
AWESOME and VERSATILE and definitely HOT SAUCE!

I have this trick and can't even give it away. It's just not that impressive. I used it a few
times and I just think there is much stronger magic out there. It does what it is meant to do,
however.
PROS:
- Performs quick, easy, and undetectable exchanges of cards
- Can be used for
transformation, transposition, animation (turn around card), and restoration effects
- The deck
appears normal to the spectator
- You can make your own gimmick for any deck (possibly w/ out
even a trip to the store)
CONS:
- The deck cannot be examined
- The actual gimmick ties
up about a third of the deck
- DoesnÂ’t do anything that canÂ’t be done with sleights
The
gimmick is very clever, but points off from the inventor because itÂ’s a variation of a pre-existing
gimmick. The Exchange only does card exchanges, but it does do them well. Still, you could do
slightly less amazing exchanges using basic slieght of hand, and then you wouldnÂ’t have your
spectators wondering why you have to keep sticking cards in the deck in order for the magic to work.
The Exchange can be used to improve existing effects and if youÂ’re creative, youÂ’ll be able to find
numerous uses for it. However, it might be too restricting or impractical for some people to really
use.
If you are a fan of pocket tricks, without a doubt...this is a must! As soon as I received The
Exchange, I made another one with a blue deck (the dvd clearly explains how to repair the deck...so
why not duplicate the deck?) This is probably the most useful purchase I made at Penguin. If you are
a cardician, strictly into cards like I am....you will realize the importance of adding this gimmick
deck into your repertoire.
I ordered the Exchange with the thought in my mind of being able to clean up dirty packets but when
it arrived and after watching the dvd i was disappointed to learn that you can't clean up a dirty
packet with it. It even admits that in the movie. Also the gimmick was so simple that it was
annoying. Anyway, I hope that I have warned you about the trick enough to make it clear that I
thought it was a waste of money.
A great trick if you don't mind using a gaff deck. It's as cunning as the rising card gaff deck and
just as powerful.
The reason I took a point off was nothing to do with the deck itself,
but rather Medina's teaching style. He looks bored stiff throughout and delivers the tricks with no
passion. He's also left handed so you've got double the work to do in working out his handling which
is not always clear.
One piece of advice: Don't open the gaff until you've watched the DVD
or there might be tears! As others have said - it is reparable though.

I think this is the best card gimmick since the invention of gaffed cards. This is reall good, trust
me. This will replace all of those packet trick where cards change, like Very Wild. What is also
great about this is the DVD that comes with this teaches you over 20 routines with the exchange. I
highly recommend this.
This is by far the coolest and most useful effect I have purchased in a long time! The Exchange does
all it claims and more! I wonder how I went this long without it. The DVD is very informative and
includes a ton of routines including McDonald's Aces and Very Wild. The whole package DVD/Gimmicked
deck was inexpensive!! It's the best bargain I've seen in a long time, and the quality and results
have no words. You have to have The Exchange!
The DVD shows (without realising) how limited this gimmick is. I was shocked to see the gimmick,
although the idea is good.
It's not worth the money (although the demo looks fantastic).
By the way, you have no chance of getting away with trying to use this during a poker game!
