Does the whiplash gimmick need arts and crafts?

The whiplash gimmick looks similar to the 52 shades of red gimmick. In other words, is the same level of arts and crafts needed for this gimmick, or is this an entirely different type of gimmick?

Similar results, but a different, more versatile gimmick that allows for more flexibility.
At any point, you can show two cards facing the same direction, or opposite direction, on both sides of the cards.
This allows you to do the other routines included with the trick.
Intermediate skill required (card splitting) for the 'arts and crafts' portion if you choose to make another gimmick.
