Generally speaking, this effects works best with real money.
Yes, as in the video, changing $1.00 bills to $100.00 bills is quite impressive, but it does tie up a 'fair' amount of cash for your 'packet'.
That being said, you can change 'ones' to any other amount (5's, 10's, 20's etc.) to make it easier on your wallet.
Or, you could change 'paper' to money for a nice effect.
And, yes, you could even use 'play' money...but you lose the 'aha' moment that real cash provides, in my opinion.
Candidly, if you have to use play money, take a pass on this since you readily admit that 'you don't do this kind of magic'.
There are many other great effects to spend your money on.
In closing, this is the 'best of the bunch' regarding money changes.
